DNS records first, and records take what you paste

A domain's DNS page now shows its records and nameservers from the start, and Add record accepts names and values in whatever format a service gives them.

After Host DNS with Magpie, the domain's page lists its records with Add record beside its name, and shows the two Nameservers to set at the registrar straight away. There is no confirm step. A Get started band above the records lists what to do and can be hidden; copying the current records is one of its steps and can be skipped.

Adding a record is quicker:

  • A name works as mx, mx.example.com or mx.example.com., and the line under Name shows the full name it will be saved as.
  • A TXT value works with or without its quotes, and a value given as several quoted strings is joined. The line under it shows the value as it will be published.
  • A mail server pasted with its priority, such as 10 aspmx.l.google.com, fills in the priority.
  • A whole record line pasted into Name, such as mx 3600 IN MX 10 mail.example.net., fills in every field.
  • Add and add another saves the record and opens a new one with the same type and TTL.

If the nameservers change while the list of records is empty, Magpie copies the domain's current records first, so its names keep working. The same applies on a Mail domain's page.
