Personal and team work
Who owns your work in Personal and in a team, what switching team changes, and who can see or change it.
Every account has Personal, a private context for its own resources. A shared team is a named group of members with resources of its own.
The selected Personal or team context decides where a new team-scoped item is created and what a tool's list shows. Existing items stay with their owner when you switch. A contact made under Personal will therefore not appear in Contacts while a team is selected, and a team note is not copied into every member's Personal notes.
Switching on the website reloads the same page in the new selection. On a page for one item, such as a Mail domain or an expense, the item belongs to the previous selection, so the item's list opens instead, or the tool's home page.
Tabs, bookmarks and links
On the website, the selected team is part of each page's address: Notes in a
team called Acme is at an address such as /t/acme/notes. Each browser tab
keeps the team in its address, so one tab can show Personal while another
shows a team. Switching in one tab does not change the others. Back, reload, a
bookmark and a copied link open the page in the team that was in the address.
An address without a team, such as an older bookmark, opens in the team you used most recently. A link to one item from another of your teams, such as a link in an email, opens in that item's team.
The website's team selector shows each shared team's colour in its menu and shows the selected colour before the page reloads. The app's list headings also show the colour. It belongs to the team and can be changed by its admins. Personal stays neutral. The website names the destination on Document creation and import actions, and the app names it on Document creation.
Notes, Documents, Spreadsheets, Presentations, Design files and Idea Boards can be moved to another of your teams, or to Personal, with Move to another team, when you can edit in both places. Other records stay where they were made.
Search and Recent work look across Personal and every team you belong to, so you can find something without remembering which team it is in. Each result shows its team, and opening one from another team opens it in that team. A result opened in a new tab opens in its team in that tab.
The website and the mobile app each remember their own selection. Switching in the app does not change the website, and switching on the website does not change the app. The app starts from the website's most recently used team until you choose one in the app. If you leave a team or are removed from it, both return to Personal.
Team admins control membership, resource access, plan and billing, and the team's connected payment account. They can also limit a member to some of the team's areas; see Choose the areas a member can use. A product object can have additional rules: a public board may be readable outside the team, while its settings still belong to team members.
Your account identity is separate from ownership. The same name, handle, and bio identify you across teams and public product pages.
For member roles and invitations, see Create and manage a team. If access does not match the team settings, Contact support.
