Generate website icons

Open Favicon Generator and choose an image. Choose from Magpie opens Your images and uses an image already there. You can also choose Browse files for a PNG, JPEG, GIF, or WebP file, drop one onto the upload area, or choose Paste from clipboard. The page names the largest file it accepts.

Non-square images are padded without stretching. The padding colour comes from the image's top-left pixel. A PNG with a transparent background is usually the best choice when the icon does not fill the whole square, and it works better with dark browser themes.

Choose Generate and download package to download the ZIP. It has the browser icons (favicon.ico, favicon.svg and PNG sizes, including favicon.png), Apple touch icons, Android and maskable icons, Microsoft tiles, a Safari pinned-tab icon, site.webmanifest, browserconfig.xml, and html-snippet.html with the tags to add inside the <head> of your site. Maskable icons have extra padding so Android can crop them into different launcher shapes without cutting off the logo.

The tags point at the root of your site, so upload the package's files there. On a Magpie files website, upload them to the top of the site and add the tags to each page's <head> (see Host a website from your own files).

Saved favicon projects

An image you upload here is saved to Your images, so it can be reused in other areas. Either way the source becomes a favicon project under Saved favicon projects, which records when it was created, when it was last generated, and how many times it has been downloaded. The ZIP is made when you download it and is not saved on the server, so you can return and download the package again later. Delete removes a project after asking; the source image stays in Your images.

In the native app

The native app can choose an image from Your images, upload a photo from your device or take a photo, create a favicon project, and share the generated ZIP. A device image is added to Your images first. Pasting from the clipboard is on the website.
