Collections

A collection is a group of products with its own page in the Store. On Collections, choose New collection and give it a name. It is added as a draft and its page opens.

A new collection's products are chosen by hand. Choose Add products, search by name, tag or SKU, and select Add beside each product. Drag a product, or use its arrows, to change the order; Remove takes it out of the collection but not out of the Store. A collection can hold up to 500 products chosen by hand.

To let rules choose the products instead, open Edit details in the More menu and set Products to Matched by rules, then choose Add rule. A rule matches products whose:

  • tag, product type or vendor is a value (capitals do not matter);
  • price is at least, or at most, an amount (the lowest price of the product's choices);
  • price is lower than its compare-at price (Is on sale);
  • publishing was in the last number of days (a draft counts from when it was added);
  • stock includes at least one choice that can be bought (Is in stock).

Choose whether products must match all rules or any rule. Products added or changed later join or leave the collection when they match or stop matching. A collection matched by rules with no rules has no products. A collection can have up to 20 rules.

Edit details also changes the collection's name, description and address (which cannot change while it is published), whether it is Published, Publish automatically at a date and time in your time zone, Product order (the order you choose, newest first, price, or name), and the title and description for search engines. Delete collection in the More menu deletes the collection; its products stay in the Store.

Shoppers see a published collection's live products, and can search, sort and filter them as on the Store's home page.

In the Magpie app, team admins and members with the Manage products permission open Store, choose Collections, then Add, and enter a name; the collection is created as a draft and opens. Select a product to add it to the collection, and select it again to take it out; each change is saved at once. Edit details in the collection's menu changes its name, address, description and whether it is published. A collection matched by rules lists the products its rules match, and keeps its rules.

Shipping zones

Shipping zones group the places you ship to that share methods. On the Shipping page, choose Add zone and give it a name. Its page opens next. Click Countries and type country codes such as CA, US. Choose Add method beside the zone's name, give the method a name and a price, and it is offered right away. A price of 0 makes it free.

Zones by state, province or postal code

A zone with one country can cover only part of it. On the zone's page:

  • States or provinces lists the states, provinces or territories it covers, one per line, up to 100. For Canada, the United States and Australia, type the name or the code, such as Ontario or ON. For other countries, type the name as buyers write it in their address.
  • Postal codes lists postal codes or their starts, one per line, up to 500. M5V covers every code that starts with M5V, such as M5V 2T6. Spaces, hyphens and capitals do not matter.

With both, an address must match both. Where zones overlap, the most specific zone applies: a zone with postal codes, then a zone with states or provinces, then a zone for the whole country. Between two postal-code zones, the longer match applies, so M5V applies before M. For example, a zone for Canada, a zone for Quebec and a zone for postal codes starting with H2 charge a buyer in H2X 1Y4 the H2 zone's methods, a buyer elsewhere in Quebec the Quebec zone's, and everyone else in Canada the Canada zone's.

Two active zones cannot cover the same place at the same level: a whole country can be in one active zone, a state or province in one active zone without postal codes, and a postal code in one active zone. Turning a zone back on is refused while it would overlap another active zone that way.

When a zone needs them, Checkout asks the buyer for their state or province (from a list of the ones your zones name, or somewhere else in the country) and postal code before showing shipping methods. Stripe's page then asks for the full address. If the address entered there is in another zone, the payment still goes through, and the order's history and order page say which zone the shipping was priced for, so you can check the shipping charge before shipping.

Shipping methods

Each method's values are changed in its row:

  • Rate: Flat rate charges the price. Free charges nothing. Free over an order amount is free when the products in the cart that ship total at least the amount in Free over, before discounts. Below that amount it charges its price, or is not offered when its price is 0. By weight and By order amount charge a rate from a list you set up below the methods (see the next section). Local pickup lets buyers collect the order from you. Local delivery delivers to the postal codes you list (see below).
  • Profile, when the Store has more than one shipping profile: which products the method is for (see Shipping profiles below).
  • Delivery time is the transit time in business days, such as 3 or 2-5, up to 60. Buyers see an estimate made from it (see Delivery estimates below). For a pickup method, it is the pickup times instead.
  • On controls whether buyers are offered the method.
  • × at the end of the row removes the method.

Rates by weight or order amount

A method charged By weight or By order amount has its own list of rates below the methods table. Choose Add rate beside the list to add one. Each rate covers a range, From a value and Under another (leave Under empty for no upper limit), and charges its Rate. A cart outside every range is not offered the method.

  • By weight uses the total weight of the cart's physical products, from each variant's Weight (g) on Price and inventory. A variant without a weight counts as 0 g, so add weights before using this rate.
  • By order amount uses the total of the products in the cart that ship, before discounts.

Local pickup

A Local pickup method is offered to buyers in the zone's countries like any other method. Add the pickup address in its row, pickup times in Delivery time, and anything else buyers need to know, such as which door to use, in its instructions. Buyers see the address when they choose the method, and Stripe does not ask them for a shipping address. A pickup price of 0 is free; any other price is charged at checkout. The order, its emails and the packing slip show the method with the pickup address. When the Store has more than one stock location, choose in the method's row which location a pickup order's stock comes from (see Stock locations and transfers).

When the order is ready, choose Mark ready for pickup on the order. The buyer will be emailed the pickup address, times and instructions, in the Store's language, and their order page will show that it is ready. When they collect it, choose Mark collected and the items they took. The buyer is not emailed when the order is collected. See Manage Store orders, fulfillment, and refunds.

Local delivery

A Local delivery method delivers to the postal codes you list, in one country. Choose Local delivery as a method's Rate; its own section appears below the methods table.

  • Country is one of the zone's countries. The method is offered only to buyers shipping there.
  • Postal codes lists the codes you deliver to, one per line, up to 500. A code can be the start of a postal code: M5V covers every code that starts with M5V, such as M5V 2T6. Spaces, hyphens and capitals do not matter. The method is not offered until it has a country and at least one code.
  • Price is the delivery fee. Set Free over to make delivery free when the products in the cart total at least that amount; leave it empty to always charge the fee.
  • Delivery dates chooses the days of the week you deliver, how many days after the order the first date can be (up to 60), and an optional cutoff time: an order placed at or after it counts from the next day. Dates and times are in the time zone of the team owner's account. Buyers then choose one of the next 14 delivery days at checkout. With no days chosen, buyers do not choose a date.

At checkout, a buyer who chooses local delivery enters their postal code, and a date when the method offers dates. A postal code the method does not cover is refused before payment, and the buyer can choose another method. Stripe's page then asks for the full address. If the address entered there is outside your postal codes, the payment still goes through and the order's history and order page say so, so you can contact the buyer.

The order, its emails, the order list and the CSV export show the delivery date. Local deliveries in Orders lists the paid deliveries still to make, soonest first. Mark an order shipped when you deliver it.

Shipping profiles

A shipping profile is a group of products that ship with their own methods, such as large items that go by freight or products you always ship free. Every Store has a default profile, named General, that holds every product not in another profile. Click a profile's name on its page to rename it.

On the Shipping page, choose Add profile and give it a name. Its page opens next: choose Add products to put products in it, or set Shipping profile on a product's page. Remove puts a product back in the default profile. Then add methods for the profile on each zone's page, choosing the profile in Add method or in the method's Profile. A profile's page lists the zones where it has methods. A Store can have up to 20 profiles.

Each profile is priced on its own products: Free over an order amount, By order amount and By weight use the total and weight of that profile's products in the cart. For each profile, the most specific zone that has a method for that profile applies.

When a cart has products from more than one profile, Checkout offers each method of the profile with the most methods, adding for every other profile its method with the same name or, when it has none, its cheapest method that ships. For example, General has Standard (CA$9) and Express (CA$20), and Large items has Freight (CA$60): a cart with both is offered "Standard + Freight" for CA$69 and "Express + Freight" for CA$80. Pickup and local delivery are offered for such a cart only when every profile in it has a pickup or local delivery method with the same name. If a profile in the cart has no method for the address, the cart cannot be shipped there.

Delete profile in a profile's More menu removes its methods from every zone and puts its products back in the default profile. The default profile cannot be deleted.

Delivery estimates

Under Delivery estimates on the Shipping page, set Handling time: the business days you take to get an order ready to ship, from 0 to 30. A method's estimate is the handling time plus its transit time. Checkout shows it beside the method, such as "Arrives in 3–5 business days", and Stripe's payment page shows it too. The order page, the buyer's order page, the order confirmation, the new-order email and the shipment email show the dates it gives, counted in business days (Monday to Friday) from the day of the order, until the whole order has shipped. Public holidays are not taken into account. Methods without a transit time, pickup and local delivery show no estimate. For a cart with products from several profiles, the estimate runs from the latest of their methods' shortest times to the latest of their longest, and there is none when one of those methods has no transit time.

Shipping in the Magpie app

In the Magpie app, team admins and members with the Manage shipping permission open Store and choose Shipping, which lists each zone's countries and methods. Add adds a zone with its name, countries and one method. Select Countries or a method to edit the zone's name and countries and one of its methods: its name, Rate (Flat rate, Free or Free over an order amount) and its prices. A Free over an order amount method has Order amount for free shipping and an optional Price below that amount; left empty, the method is offered only on orders of that amount or more.

The app does not add a method to an existing zone, turn zones or methods on or off, or delete them. It does not set states, provinces, postal codes, profiles, transit times, rates by weight or order amount, local pickup or local delivery. A method of one of those other kinds shows its rate in the app and keeps it, with its prices, when you rename it or change its zone. A zone limited to states or postal codes keeps them and its one country, and a zone added in the app has its method in the default profile.

Zones, methods and orders

Turning Active off on a zone's page stops offering its methods. Delete zone in the zone's More menu removes it and its methods. Orders keep the method and price they were placed with, so editing or deleting a method, zone or profile does not change them.

Shipping is requested only when the cart contains a physical product. A cart of digital products does not need a shipping address or method. Store does not quote carriers or buy labels.

If a method does not appear, check the destination's zone (including states, provinces and postal codes), the method's profile and whether it is on, its threshold or rates, and whether the cart requires shipping. If those match, Contact support.
