Set up Magpie after signing up

After you create an account on the website, Magpie asks a few questions and sets up your Dashboard from the answers. Each answer is saved when you select Continue, so you can go Back, reload the page, or sign out and return later. Signing in again opens the step you reached. The bottom of each step shows which step it is and how many there are.

If Magpie does not have your name yet, setup first asks What should we call you?

1. What do you want to do first? Choose the closest goal, or Choose tools myself. If your browser does not report a time zone, the next step asks for it; see Your public profile and account details.
2. Start with these tools. The tools for that goal are selected. Add or remove any; Add other tools lists the rest. The tools you keep are pinned on your Dashboard. If you signed up from a tool's page, that tool is selected whichever goal you choose.
3. Who are you setting Magpie up for? Just me uses Personal. A team asks for a team name and creates a team that belongs to you when you select Create team. Going back and changing the name renames the same team; it does not create another.
4. Choose a plan. Personal is offered Free or Pro. A new team is offered Free or the Team plan. Continue free moves on with no payment. Choose monthly or yearly billing and the paid plan's button to open the checkout page; after payment you return to setup. If you leave checkout without paying, the plan step shows your earlier choice and nothing is charged.
5. Invite your team. For a new team only. Enter email addresses and a role for each, then select Send invitations, or select Skip for now. The Free plan includes 3 members and the Team plan 25, counting you. Invitations expire after 14 days.

Setup then opens Dashboard. Start with links to the first thing to do in the tool you chose first, until you have opened some work.

Skip setup is at the bottom of every step. Skipping leaves you on Personal and the Free plan, and pins a small set of tools if none are pinned yet. You can pin and unpin tools at any time from Customize on Dashboard, create a team from Your teams, and change plans from the billing page.

If you choose a plan on the Pricing page before signing up, setup selects that plan and billing interval again at the plan step. Choosing the Team plan there also preselects A team.

People who join through a team invitation do not see setup. They join the team that invited them.

Confirm your email address

An account created with an email address and password is sent a confirmation link. Until you open it you can use Magpie, but you cannot invite people to a team or buy a plan. Dashboard, the plan step and the invitation step each have Send a new link; you can ask for a new link again after a short wait, and each link works for 72 hours. Open the link in a browser where you are signed in to the account; anywhere else, Magpie asks you to sign in first and then confirms the address. The link does not sign you in.

Accounts created with Apple, Google, LinkedIn or GitHub, and accounts created from a team invitation sent to the same address, do not need confirming.
