Releases no longer wait for database updates to be applied by hand. Each release applies the updates it needs and records them, so none is applied twice. An update that would remove or overwrite data is never applied automatically, and any update that fails stops the release while the previous version keeps serving.

Each release now applies its own database updates before it goes live, and stops safely if one cannot be applied.
