Connected apps
Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or another app to your Magpie account, choose what it can use, and disconnect it from Connected apps.
A connected app is an app such as Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor that uses your Magpie account through MCP (Model Context Protocol), the way these apps add tools. The app reads and changes your records with the same tools the Dashboard assistant uses, as you, with the access you have on Magpie. Connecting an app needs Pro, and you can connect up to 10 apps.
Connecting an app
Magpie's address for apps is shown on Connected apps in Account
settings: https://magpie.diy/mcp.
- In the app, add a connector, custom connector or MCP server, and paste the
address. In Claude, this is in Settings under Connectors; in Claude Code,
run
claude mcp add --transport http magpie https://magpie.diy/mcp; in ChatGPT and Cursor, add it where the app lists MCP servers. - The app opens Magpie in your browser. Sign in if you are asked to.
- Choose Personal or one of your teams. An app uses one of them; to use another as well, connect the app again.
- Untick any area the app does not need.
- Turn on Allow changes if the app may add and change records. Without it, the app only reads.
- Select Connect. The browser goes back to the app.
What the app can do
The app can use only the areas you chose, in the Personal or team you chose, and only what you can do there yourself. If a team admin later takes an area away from you, the app loses it too. Before a change that asks for confirmation on the Dashboard, such as deleting a contact, the app asks you first. The app cannot send email or messages outside Magpie.
Links in the app's answers open the records on Magpie. What the app receives is kept by that app under its own terms.
Disconnecting an app
Open Connected apps in Account settings and select Disconnect beside the app. It stops at once; to use it again, connect it again. An app also stops when you leave the team it was connected to, and its row then says why.
An app that has not been used for 30 days asks you to connect it again, and so does every app 90 days after you connected it.
Using an API key instead
Claude Code, Cursor and scripts can send an API key instead of connecting
through the browser: add the header Authorization: Bearer YOUR_SECRET_KEY
to the app's MCP server settings. A key acts as you in every area, in your
current team, unless the app also sends X-Magpie-Team-Id. See
API keys and REST API.
