New Vault

Vault: passwords and private information, end-to-end encrypted

There was nowhere on Magpie to safely put a password, an API key, or a recovery code - Notes was the closest thing, and Notes is not encrypted.

Vault is a new place for passwords and private information, alongside Meetings and Notes. Everything is encrypted in your browser before it reaches Magpie: Magpie stores ciphertext and cannot read your Vault, even from the database.

Setting up Vault generates encryption keys on your device and asks for a Vault password, separate from your Magpie login password. You also get a one-time recovery key - save it, since Magpie cannot recover a lost Vault password without it.

Once unlocked, Vault holds logins, secure notes, API credentials, recovery codes, and custom items with your own fields. Items can be tagged and favorited, search happens locally against the decrypted items already in your browser, and a password generator is built in. Vault locks itself after 15 minutes of inactivity, or immediately from the lock button, and you can export an encrypted backup at any time.

See /vault. Sharing a Vault with a team, and importing from other password managers, are not part of this first release.
