Follow feeds and websites in RSS Reader
Add RSS, Atom, websites, or Bluesky accounts as subscriptions and read them in one timeline.
RSS Reader collects new entries from the subscriptions you follow and shows them in one timeline, newest first. Subscriptions belong to your account, not to a team: RSS Reader shows the same subscriptions in Personal and in every team.
Add a subscription
Choose Subscriptions in the page bar, open Add subscription, and enter one of these in Feed or Bluesky account:
- an RSS or Atom feed address;
- an ordinary website address, for which RSS Reader looks for the site's feed;
- a Bluesky handle such as
@name.bsky.social, a Bluesky profile address, or a Bluesky DID.
If RSS Reader says that no RSS or Atom feed was found, the website does not announce its feed. Find the feed address on the site, often linked as RSS or Feed, and add that instead. An address on a private network cannot be fetched and is refused.
The Free plan allows up to 10 subscriptions and Pro up to 100.
Read the timeline
All shows every entry and Unread shows only the ones you have not read. Choose a subscription in the Subscriptions drawer to show only its entries; Show all subscriptions returns to the full timeline. Compact, Preview and Expanded set how much of each entry is shown. RSS Reader stores the filter and display choice with your account, so they are the same in every browser.
Each entry has Open original, which opens the publisher's page in a new tab, Save bookmark, which saves it to Bookmarks in the Personal or team you have selected (see Save and organize Bookmarks), and Mark read or Mark unread. How entries are marked read, and the keys that move through the timeline, are in RSS Reader controls and keyboard shortcuts.
RSS Reader removes scripts and unsupported embedded content from entries. Images from the publisher are not loaded until you choose Load image from publisher, so opening RSS Reader does not contact the publisher's server. Open the original page when an entry needs its full interactive page.
Checks and errors
RSS Reader checks subscriptions for new entries in the background. A check can fail when the site is unavailable or its feed is invalid. RSS Reader then keeps the existing entries and shows the error under that subscription in the Subscriptions drawer, with Try again to check it at once. A subscription that was checked successfully shows when.
Remove subscriptions
In the Subscriptions drawer, select one or more subscriptions with their checkboxes and choose Remove selected. Removing a subscription removes it and its entries from RSS Reader. An entry you saved as a bookmark stays in Bookmarks. Search subscriptions narrows a long list.
In the Magpie app
RSS Reader is in the app's More list. It shows the same timeline with All entries and Unread entries, marks entries read or unread, and opens an entry's original page. Its menu has Mark all read and Manage subscriptions, which adds and removes subscriptions, sets the display mode, and shows when each subscription was last checked; a failed check shows the date it failed, the last date it worked when known, and Try again.
The assistant
The assistant can search your stored RSS Reader entries by title, author, subscription or text, and filter them by read state or date. It reads stored entries only; it does not mark entries read or change subscriptions.
