What RSS and Atom feeds are
Understand the feed addresses used by RSS Reader, podcasts, and shared Bookmarks collections.
RSS and Atom are formats a site uses to publish a machine-readable list of its recent work. A feed reader checks the address and shows new entries without the reader having to revisit every site.
A feed address is not meant to be read as a web page. Copy it into a feed reader or podcast app. Many readers, RSS Reader included, also accept an ordinary website address and find the site's feed.
Feeds in Magpie
Magpie uses feeds in both directions.
- RSS Reader follows public RSS and Atom feeds and Bluesky accounts; see Follow feeds and websites in RSS Reader.
- A published podcast has an RSS feed that podcast apps subscribe to. The public podcast page links it as RSS feed. Its address stays the same when the podcast moves to another team or your handle changes; an older feed address sends podcast apps to it. See Create and publish podcasts.
- A shared Bookmarks collection has an RSS feed of its links: its address
with
/feedadded. See Import, export and share Bookmarks.
A feed contains only what is already public. It is not a way to share private notes, Team chat, gated Supporters posts, or unpublished work.
If a Magpie feed returns an error while its public page is on, Contact support.
