Create a promotion campaign

Magpie creates the Stripe coupon and promotion code for you. You do not need to create either record in Stripe or copy a Stripe ID into Magpie. A campaign is a discount on Magpie's own plans; a team's discounts in its Store are separate (see Store discounts and discount codes).

Create a campaign

1. Open Admin, then Promotions.
2. Select New campaign.
3. Under Campaign, enter the Campaign code customers will type at checkout (letters are saved as capitals) and a Campaign name for administrators. Offer label is optional: it is the line shown above the price on the offer page.
4. Under Discount, choose Percentage or Fixed amount and enter the Percent off or Amount off (USD). Choose the Billing period it applies to (yearly only, monthly only, or both) and whether the discount applies to the first payment, a number of months, or every payment.
5. Under Availability and limits, add a start date, an end date, a total number of redemptions or a number per customer only when the campaign needs them. Only customers who have not subscribed before limits it to first subscriptions. Allow this campaign to be used turns it on when it is created.
6. Select Create campaign.

Magpie creates a coupon limited to the applicable Magpie plan product, creates a promotion code for it, and saves both Stripe IDs with the campaign. Stripe uses the same discount, duration, end date, total redemption limit, and first-subscription restriction entered in Magpie.

If Stripe cannot create the campaign

The form keeps what you entered and shows an error. Check that plan billing is configured, then try again. Retrying the same form does not create another coupon or promotion code.

New campaign records must be created in the same Stripe mode as Magpie checkout. Magpie uses its configured Stripe secret key and plan prices, so there is no live/test mode choice on the campaign form.

The campaign list

Campaigns lists each campaign's code, name, discount, billing period, end date, how many times it has been used (out of its limit, when it has one) and its status: Live, Off, or Stripe setup required.

Use Turn on or Turn off to change a campaign. Magpie updates the Stripe promotion code and the campaign together. A campaign created before automatic Stripe setup may show Stripe setup required and cannot be switched on until it has a linked Stripe promotion code.

Select View in Stripe to open the coupon in the Stripe Dashboard and verify its discount, duration, product, and promotion code. Magpie opens the matching live or test record based on the Stripe key used for billing.

Promotions are on the website only; the Magpie app has no Admin pages. For a campaign you cannot create or reconcile with Stripe, Contact support.
