Your public profile and account details
Change the name, profile picture, handle, bio, time zone and sign-in email used across Magpie.
Open Account settings from the identity menu. The Public profile section shows the identity Magpie uses wherever it identifies you publicly. The mobile app has the same safe profile fields under More → Account settings.
- Your name is the name shown to other people.
- Profile picture appears in your account menu, in Chat and on your public pages, such as your meeting page. Open it and select Choose picture to pick one from Your images or upload one from your device; an upload is added to Your images. Remove picture shows your initials instead, and the picture stays in Your images.
- If you sign in with Google and have no profile picture, Magpie copies your Google picture into Your images and uses it. A picture you removed is not put back when you next sign in; to use your Google picture again, open Profile picture and choose Use Google picture.
- Handle is the unique name used in your public addresses, such as your meeting page, public calendar and podcasts.
- Bio is the short description shown with your identity where supported.
Your meeting page's address is shown on the Meetings dashboard. The page is off until you set up Meetings; see Set up and share your meeting page.
Changing the handle changes account-level public URLs. Podcasts, books, sites, boards, stores, and similar objects can also have their own address component; their title or slug does not have to match your handle.
The Account details section shows the sign-in email, account creation date, and time zone. Times you enter or schedule are interpreted in that time zone unless the page says otherwise, and your weekly meeting availability uses it. Changing it does not alter the instant represented by an existing booking or scheduled newsletter.
A new account starts in the time zone your browser reports. Some browsers report none, or report UTC to keep it private; setup then asks for your time zone, with the time zone of the place you signed up from already chosen. When your browser's time zone differs from the account's, the Meetings, Bookings and Availability pages offer to switch.
An account whose time zone is missing or not a real time zone uses Eastern Time, shown as Toronto, the city Magpie is based in, until you choose one.
Change your sign-in email
Open Email under Account details (in the app, More → Account settings → Email) and enter the new address in New email.
- Confirm it is you. Enter your current password. If the account has no password, a code is sent to your current address instead; enter it in Enter the code to continue. If two-factor authentication is on, also enter a code from your authenticator app.
- A link is sent to the new address. Your email only changes when that link is opened, so a mistyped address changes nothing. The link works for 24 hours. Until then, Account settings shows the change as waiting, and the Email page offers Send a new link and Cancel change.
- Once it changes, your old address is told, with a link to undo the change. The undo link works for 7 days.
Undo is for a change you did not make. It restores the old address, signs the account out on every device and removes its password; a sign-in link is then sent to the old address so you can get back in and set a new password.
Google, Apple, LinkedIn and GitHub sign-in keep working after a change. Receipts for teams you own go to the new address. If the new address already belongs to another Magpie account, nothing changes, and that address is told someone tried to use it.
Personal currency, under Account details, is the base currency for Personal. New invoices, expenses, asset prices and time rates in Personal start in it, and new teams you create start with it. Records already made keep their own currency. Until you choose one, Personal uses its Invoicing currency, then its Payments account currency, then its Store currency, then USD. Personal's books keep the currency they were set up in, even if this changes later.
