Ouvrir dans Magpie

Select Get started free to create an account. Enter your email address and select Continue, then enter your name and a password and select Create account. If the address already has an account, Magpie offers Sign in instead of creating a second one. You can also continue with Apple, Google, LinkedIn or GitHub when those methods are available. A social provider can also be linked to an existing account that uses the same verified email address.

GitHub shares the GitHub account's primary email address. Magpie uses it only if GitHub has verified it; otherwise GitHub sign-in stops with an error. To sign in to an existing Magpie account with a different GitHub address, connect GitHub in Account settings.

An account created with an email address and password is sent a link to confirm the address, and so is an account made at a Data Removal checkout, once the payment goes through. Team invitations sent to the address wait on Your teams until it is confirmed, and records of payments made with it without signing in wait to be listed under Sent to you. Inviting people to a team, sending proposals and documents for signing, and buying a plan need a confirmed address. Open the link in a browser where you are signed in to the account; anywhere else, Magpie asks you to sign in first and then confirms the address. After the account is created, Magpie asks a few setup questions; see Set up Magpie after signing up.

With Apple you can choose Hide My Email. Magpie then receives an Apple relay address instead of your own, and that relay address becomes the account's email address. Mail to it reaches you through Apple. Because the relay address differs from any address you used before, Hide My Email starts a new account rather than signing in to an existing one; to use Apple with an existing account, connect it in Account settings. Magpie makes an account only from an address Apple has verified.

Some installations require an invite code. Enter and verify the code first; the registration choices appear after it is accepted. The code is not used until the account is created. See Invitations and invite codes.

To set Magpie up for a team, choose A team during setup and name it. Email, Google, LinkedIn, Apple and GitHub signup all continue to the same setup. A Start a team link (/register?for=team) preselects A team; if you are already signed in, it opens team creation directly. The new team becomes your website selection; the app keeps its own selection. A team on the Free plan does not require payment and has places for 3 members, counting you; the Team plan has 25. See Create and manage a team.

A valid team invitation permits signup for the email address it names without a separate site invite code. Open the invitation first. After creating the account, return to it and select Join. An invitation to keep a team's books as its accountant works the same way, with Accept. An OAuth account must share the invited email address; Apple's Hide My Email address will not match an invitation sent to your usual address.

In the mobile app, Continue with Apple, Continue with Google and Continue with GitHub create an account when none exists for that Apple, Google or GitHub account, with no password needed. If invite codes are required, the app cannot create the account.

Sign in later

Open Sign in and enter your email address and password. The eye button in the password field shows or hides what you have typed.

To sign in without the password, enter your email address and select Email me a sign-in link instead under Sign in. The page then shows Check your email. The link is sent to the account email address and works once. Opening it shows a Sign in page naming the account. In the browser where you asked for the link, that page signs you in by itself; in any other browser, select Sign in. If you did not ask for a sign-in link, close the page.

If you opened a Magpie page that needs you to be signed in, from an email link for example, signing in opens that page. Otherwise it opens the Dashboard.

An account with no password, passkey or sign-in provider, such as one a business or a school made for you at your email address, signs in with a link Magpie emails to that address. Dashboard says so under How you sign in. To sign in another way, add a password or a passkey in Account settings.

Sign in on another device

Every sign-in email you ask for on Sign in, on a school's sign-in page or on a page that asks you to sign in to open something has a six-digit code as well as the link. Use the code to sign in on the device where you asked for the email, for example on a computer when you read your email on your phone, or in your phone's browser when its mail app opens links in its own browser.

On Check your email, enter the code in Code. It is sent as soon as it has six digits, or select Sign in. The code works once, within 30 minutes, and only in the browser where you asked for the email. Opening the link stops the code working, and asking for a new email replaces both: use the code from the newest email. After 5 wrong codes the code stops working, and the page says how long to wait: open the link instead, or when the wait is over select Send the link again and enter the new code. If two-factor authentication is on, Magpie asks for its code next, as it does after the link.

An email that makes a new account has no code: open its link on the device where you want to sign in. After 10 wrong codes since the account last signed in, its sign-in emails have no code until it signs in again; the link in them still works.

Sign in from a talk page

Sign in on someone's talk page opens a sign-in page that names your message, such as Sign in to send your message to Andrew. Enter your email address and select Email me a sign-in link. The link works once, for 30 minutes. Open it in the browser where you recorded the message: once you are signed in, the message is sent. If the email has a code, entering it on Check your email in that browser does the same.

If the link opens in another app or on another device (a phone's mail app, or a talk page opened in Instagram), the message is not sent from there: enter the code from the email in the browser where you recorded the message instead. If the email has no code, go back to the talk page in that browser and choose Email me a link to send it: that link sends the message from any device.

An email address with no Magpie account gets a free one, with no password, when the link is opened, and the talk page asks for your name before it sends the message. You can add a password later in Account settings. Your password, a passkey, and Apple or Google work on that page as they do on Sign in. A sign-in link that expired less than a day ago opens the same page, so you can ask for a new one. Opened in another app or on another device, it opens a page that says the message is waiting in the browser where you recorded it, with a link to the talk page.

Forgot your password

Select Forgot password? under the password field. Enter the email address you sign in with and select Send reset link. The page shows the same message whether or not the address has an account. If it has one, Magpie emails a link that works once, for 30 minutes; asking for another link stops the earlier ones working. If the link has expired, the page offers Send a new link.

Open the link, enter a new password twice and select Change password. The old password is not needed. If two-factor authentication is on, the page also asks for the six-digit code from your authenticator app or one of your recovery codes. Changing the password signs you in, signs out every other session on the website and the mobile app, stops any sign-in links already sent from working, and emails the account to say the password was changed. On an account whose address has not been confirmed, the page asks for no code: the link confirms the address, and Magpie then asks you to check your sign-in methods, as described in [[start/create-an-account-and-sign-in#check-your-sign-in-methods]].

An account that signs in only with Apple, Google, LinkedIn or GitHub can use Forgot password? to set a password.

If two-factor authentication is on, the next screen asks for the six-digit code from your authenticator app. Use a recovery code on that screen accepts one of the codes you saved when you set two-factor up. See Password and two-factor authentication.

If you have added a passkey, select the Email address field and choose the passkey from your browser's suggestions instead of typing anything. See Passkeys.

Apple, Google, LinkedIn and GitHub buttons are sign-in methods, not the Google Calendar, Issues GitHub connection or other product integrations. Open Account settings. Under Sign-in and security, each method shows Connected as and the address it uses, or Not connected. Select Connect to link the method to your account, or Unlink and confirm to remove it. A method cannot be unlinked while it is the only way to sign in; set a password or link another method first.

Check your sign-in methods

If you have not confirmed your email address yet, the first time you sign in with a sign-in link, a password reset link, or Apple, Google, LinkedIn or GitHub using that address, Magpie confirms the address and shows what is set up on your account before you continue: its password, two-factor authentication, passkeys, linked sign-in methods, signed-in apps, API keys and Git credentials, connected services, and recent sign-ins. Signing in with Apple, Google, LinkedIn or GitHub in the mobile app shows the same list on a Check your sign-in methods screen, and the method is linked to your account once you choose. An older version of the app cannot show that screen and says Update the Magpie app to finish this sign-in instead: update the app and sign in again.

  • Keep them and continue keeps everything as it is. If two-factor authentication is on, Magpie then asks for its code.
  • Remove them removes everything listed and signs out every other session on the website, in the mobile app and in the browser extension. Your records and teams stay as they are. Magpie emails the account a list of what was removed. Magpie then opens the page you were signing in to, or Account settings when there is none.

To remove only some of them, keep them and remove the rest in Account settings on the website. Magpie asks once: after either choice, the address is confirmed. If the account has nothing set up, Magpie confirms the address without asking. A check left unanswered for 30 minutes stops working, and Magpie says Your sign-in did not finish. Sign in again.

If Magpie says your address already has an account, sign in with Email me a sign-in link instead.

Too many attempts

After about ten wrong passwords in an hour, the next attempt has to wait. The message names the wait, which starts at a minute and grows if the wrong password keeps being sent. Signing in correctly clears it straight away, and every wait ends on its own without anyone having to unlock the account.

Requests for a sign-in link or a password reset link are limited the same way, per email address, and each kind is counted separately. If you have asked for several links and none arrived, check the spam folder rather than asking again; the newest link is the only one that works. On the reset page, a few wrong two-factor codes in an hour start a wait; the message names it. So do a few wrong codes from sign-in emails in an hour, for an email address or from one internet connection: Too many codes were tried names the wait, and the link in the email still works meanwhile.

If you cannot reach the email address on the account or every sign-in method fails, Contact support.
