A passkey is a sign-in credential kept by your device or password manager, such as iCloud Keychain, Google Password Manager or 1Password. Signing in with it uses the device's fingerprint, face recognition, screen lock or PIN. Magpie stores the passkey's public key; the private key stays with the device or password manager.

Passkeys are optional. Your password, sign-in links, and Apple, Google, LinkedIn and GitHub sign-in work whether or not you add one.

Add a passkey

Open Account settings and select Add passkey under Passkeys. Your browser or device opens its own dialog to create the passkey and asks you to verify with your fingerprint, face, screen lock or PIN. If you close the dialog, nothing is added.

If you last signed in more than 10 minutes ago, Magpie first asks you to confirm it's you. Enter your password (and your two-factor code if two-factor authentication is on), use a passkey already on the account, or sign out and sign in again by any method. Removing a passkey asks the same.

A browser that cannot create passkeys shows "Passkeys aren't supported by this browser." in place of the button.

A new passkey is named after its password manager when Magpie recognizes it, and "Passkey" otherwise. Select the name to change it. The list shows when each passkey was added and when it was last used.

Magpie emails the account's address whenever a passkey is added or removed.

Sign in with a passkey

On the sign-in page, select the Email address field. A browser that supports passkey autofill lists your Magpie passkeys among its suggestions, beside saved passwords. Choose one and verify on the device; you do not type your email address. A browser that supports passkeys but not autofill shows Use a passkey below the other ways to sign in.

Signing in with a passkey does not ask for a two-factor code: verifying on the device is the second step.

A passkey belongs to your account, not to a team. It signs you in to every team you belong to, with the same roles as any other sign-in.

The Magpie mobile app does not sign in with passkeys. Passkeys work in the browser on a phone or tablet.

Remove a passkey

Select Remove beside the passkey and confirm. Magpie refuses it from that moment. Your password manager may still list it until you delete it there; some browsers remove it from their suggestions automatically after Magpie refuses it.

If you can no longer use any of your passkeys, sign in with your password, a sign-in link or a linked account. If no sign-in method works, Contact support.
