Password and two-factor authentication
Change your password, protect sign-in with an authenticator app and recovery codes, and sign out of every other browser.
Open Account settings, then use the Password, Two-factor authentication or Other browsers row under Sign-in and security.
Change the password
Enter the current password, the new password, and the same new password again. If you signed up through Apple, Google, LinkedIn or GitHub and do not yet have a password, the page lets you set one instead.
If you do not know the current password, select Forgot your current password? Reset it by email under that field. Magpie emails a link to choose a new password without the old one; see [[start/create-an-account-and-sign-in#forgot-your-password]].
Sign out of every other browser
On the Other browsers row, select Sign out of every other browser and confirm. Every other browser signed in to your account will be signed out the next time it opens a page, and the browser you are using will stay signed in. The Magpie app and browser extensions will stay signed in; sign them out one by one under Signed-in apps in Account settings.
Use it when someone else may be signed in to your account, for example after you signed in on a shared or borrowed computer. A browser that was signed out can sign in again in any of the ways you sign in, so change your password as well if someone else may know it.
Turn on two-factor authentication
Open the two-factor page and scan its QR code with an authenticator app, or type the Manual key into the app. Enter the app's current code and select Enable. Magpie then shows your recovery codes once: save them somewhere outside Magpie and select Done. Each recovery code works once, in place of the authenticator when the device is unavailable.
The authenticator code is time-based. If valid codes are refused repeatedly, check that the phone's clock is set automatically.
Signing in with a passkey does not ask for the authenticator code; see Passkeys.
To turn it off, open the two-factor page, enter your password under Confirm your password and select Disable. If you have lost the authenticator and every recovery code, Contact support.
