Create and publish podcasts
Make podcasts in Personal or a team, upload MP3 episodes, set feed details, share an RSS feed, and move a podcast to another team.
Each podcast has its own title, address, episodes, artwork, settings, public page, and RSS feed. A podcast belongs to Personal or to one team, and everyone who can edit in that team can work on it. Podcast lists the podcasts of Personal or the selected team; the plan of the team that owns them sets how many it can have.
Create or select a podcast from Podcast; Start a podcast or Start another podcast on the list adds one to the selected Personal or team. A podcast's page has Record an episode (drafts you are still recording, with Continue), Recordings (sessions with other people), Episodes and Upload an episode.
To publish audio made elsewhere, enter an Episode Title and Episode Description under Upload an episode, choose an MP3 file and choose Upload Episode. An episode file can be up to 500 MB. Uploaded and recorded episodes appear in the same Episodes list, each with a player, Video, Share episode (a Social Media post with the episode's name and address, see Write, schedule and publish social posts) and Delete episode. Deleting an episode deletes its audio and removes it from the feed; it cannot be undone. To record in Magpie, see Record a podcast episode.
Podcast settings
Podcast Settings has the podcast's title, author, description, category, Explicit content value and artwork; click a value to change it. Choose artwork picks a square JPG or PNG from Your images, or uploads one there first; Apple Podcasts requires artwork, and chosen artwork must be at least 1,400 pixels on each side. Until you choose one, the artwork is a design made from the podcast title; Use title artwork goes back to it.
Podcast is on publishes the podcast's public page and RSS feed; while it is off, nothing is published and the feed is private. The Public podcast page and RSS feed addresses are shown there for copying.
A Personal podcast's page is at your own address, then /podcast. A team's
podcast is at the team's public name: its address name, which is usually the
name in the team's Magpie addresses. When that name is already someone's
address, the team's podcasts cannot be published until a team admin chooses a
Public name on the team's page.
To list the podcast in Apple Podcasts, Spotify or another app, submit the RSS feed address there; podcast apps subscribe to the feed, not the public page. The feed address stays the same when the podcast's title changes or it moves to another team. Deleting an episode removes it from the feed and may make a listener's saved download unavailable.
Move a podcast to another team
On the podcast's page, choose More, then Move to another team…, choose the team and choose Move podcast. Anyone who can edit in both teams can move a podcast. Its episodes, drafts, recordings and files move with it, and people in the old team who are not in the new one can no longer work on it.
A published podcast's page moves to the new team's public name, and its old
address will send visitors to the new one. Its feed and episodes stay the same,
so subscribers keep getting new episodes. If the new team already has a podcast
with the same address name, the moved one gets a number added, such as
night-shift-2. A podcast cannot move while someone is in one of its recordings, or
into a team whose plan has no room for another podcast or for its files.
A Personal podcast's files count in your own storage. A team's podcast files count in the team's storage, which its plan sets.
Episode video
A published episode can be made into a video of its audio over the podcast artwork. Open Video beside an episode, pause where an image should appear, choose Add image, then drag and resize the image on the artwork or on the timeline. Appears at and On screen for set when it shows and for how long, and Layer with Bring forward or Send backward sets which image is on top. Choose Save, then Create video, then Download MP4. Creating the video again replaces the file.
An image can follow one of the people who recorded the episode. Under React to speaker, choose the person: the image is shown at Opacity while talking while they talk, and at Opacity while quiet otherwise. This applies only to episodes recorded with Magpie, once the take has been prepared.
In the native app
The native app lists the podcasts of Personal or the team selected in the app, and their published episodes, and records new ones: solo, or with other people in a recording session (see Record a podcast episode). Uploading an MP3, podcast settings and moving a podcast are on the website. Published episodes play in the native app, with play and pause, a position slider, skip back and forward buttons, and playback speed. Playback can continue in the background and appears in the device's media controls.
