Open Screen Recorder and choose New Recording (or Record in the sidebar). Recordings belong to you, whichever team is selected. Your Personal plan sets the longest recording, how many you can make in a week, and the video quality: on the free plan a recording can be 3 minutes long and you can make 1 a week (the week starts on Monday); Pro records up to 30 minutes, as many as your storage holds. Recordings use your storage: 1 GB on the free plan and 20 GB with Pro.

When you are a webinar's first host, its recording is added to your recordings in full. It counts toward your storage, not toward your weekly recordings, and it is private (see [[create/screen-recording-share#private-recordings]]).

Before you record

Enter a Title (you can rename it afterwards), then choose the Video orientation (landscape or portrait) and the Screen position, which places a shared screen whose shape differs from the video.

  • Record my microphone records your voice. To capture sound from a browser tab or window too, share a tab or window with audio in the browser's screen-sharing chooser.
  • Turn off echo and noise processing, under Recording options, asks the browser to capture your microphone without echo cancellation, noise suppression or automatic gain control. Use headphones when it is on. Your computer may still process the sound, and it does not affect sound captured from a shared tab or window.
  • Higher video quality, on plans that offer it, records at a higher bit rate and uses more storage; the option says how much.

Your camera

Show my camera records your mirrored camera into the video itself, so it is in the file you share. You can switch it off and on again over the preview while recording.

  • Camera layout: Floating bubble places the camera in a corner or the middle in the Camera shape you choose (a circle, a rounded square or another shape). Camera size makes it smaller or larger, and you can drag it in the preview. Split screen gives the camera its own panel on the Camera side you choose, at half or one third of the frame.
  • Camera sets whether the camera stays visible or fades out a few seconds after recording starts.

Teleprompter

Turn on Show a teleprompter to read a script while you record. Choose a Magpie Document as the Script, or choose Type a script below and use Script text. A Document script shows the Document's current content, so editing the Document changes the script; Reload script picks up an edit made while the page is open.

Target video length (minutes and seconds) sets a starting scroll speed so the script fills that length. The page shows the script's word count and an estimated speaking time. The target length is saved with your recorder options.

The teleprompter is at the top of the screen, above the recorder, so your eyes stay near the camera. Set Text size and Width in the options, and drag the handle along its bottom edge to change its height. Scroll starts and stops the text, Scrolling pace sets how fast it moves, and the space bar does the same as Scroll. Back to top returns to the first line. Where the browser supports it, Pop out opens the teleprompter in its own window, which you can drag beside the camera. Turn on Mirror the text when reading off a teleprompter glass in front of the lens.

The teleprompter is part of the page, not part of the video, so it is not recorded unless you share your entire screen. Share a window or a tab to keep it out of the recording.

Record

Choose Choose screen and select a screen, window or tab. The preview shows what will be recorded; choose Record to start and Stop when finished. Discard throws the recording away. Keep the page open while the browser finishes and uploads the file.

Your recordings

Recordings lists each recording with its length, size, date and view count. Click a title to rename it. Share copies or sends its link, Watch opens its share page, and Edit opens the recording editor. Anyone with a share link can open the recording, so do not use it for material that needs named-recipient access. See Share a screen recording for the share page and Edit a screen recording for images, cuts and the thumbnail.

To remove a recording, choose Edit, then More in the page bar of the recording editor, then Move to Trash. Its share page, video and download stop working until it is restored from Trash within 30 days, and it still uses your storage until it is deleted forever.

In the native app

The native app lists ready recordings owned by your account and shows their details. It can rename a recording, move it to Trash after confirmation, play it with seeking and full screen, and share its link (Share recording link) or its final MP4 with saved cuts and images (Share recording file). View analytics and Share page settings are in the recording's actions menu.

Upload saves a video from the device, such as the phone's own screen recording, as a screen recording. Choose it from Photos or Files; MP4 and WebM videos are accepted. It counts toward your weekly recordings and storage like a browser recording, and a video longer than your plan's recording length is not saved. Recording the screen and editing are on the website.

The assistant

Team admins can ask the assistant to change a recording's sharing, images and cuts, or move it to Trash. It works on the recording named in the conversation, keeps the original file unchanged, and asks for confirmation in the current message before changing sharing, saving edits or images, moving a recording to Trash or deleting an image.

If screen capture is unavailable, check the browser's and the operating system's screen-recording permission. If a completed upload never appears, Contact support.
