Supporters is one page per Personal or team where people join as supporters, free or for a monthly amount, and read the posts published for them. Payments go to the team's own Stripe account, the one Store and paid Forms share.

Get started

Choose Set up Supporters on the Supporters overview and give the page a name. Tiers opens next, ready for the first tier. Until they are done or hidden, Get started lists five steps, each marked done as soon as it is, however it was done:

  1. Describe your page: the profile holds the name, a short description, a longer About section and a cover image. Choose cover picks a JPG, PNG or WebP from Your images, or uploads one there first; a copy is shown on the public page.
  2. Add a tier: a free tier anyone can join, a paid monthly tier, or both.
  3. Connect Stripe: needed to offer paid tiers. A free tier works without it.
  4. Write a post: text, images, a video or a poll, kept as a draft until it is ready.
  5. Publish your page: anyone with the address can then read it and join.

Hide removes the list from the overview; the pages it points to stay in the area's tabs.

Public address on the profile changes the page's address, /support/{address}. Links to the old address stop working.

Publishing and taking the page offline

A page can be published once it has a tier that can be joined: a free tier, or a paid tier with a ready Stripe account behind it. The switch on the overview publishes the page and shows its address.

A live page with paid supporters cannot be taken offline until their subscriptions have ended, so Stripe cannot keep charging for a page that is gone. Free supporters do not hold a page open.

What the public page shows

The page has the cover image, name and description, the tiers to join, the About section and the posts. A post a visitor cannot read keeps its title, cover and excerpt and names the tiers that open it.

Supporters settings choose what the page says about its size: how many supporters it has, how many are on each tier, and what the paid tiers add up to each month. All three are off until turned on. The same settings hold the welcome message a new supporter reads and whether team admins are emailed about each new supporter.

Payments

Supporters › Payments lists every payment to the program, the first payment and each renewal, with the supporter, tier, amount, status, fees and net amount, and any refunds. Totals received and refunded are shown per currency. Fees are Stripe's processing fee plus Magpie's 3% Supporters fee; they appear once Stripe reports them.

To refund a payment, refund it in your Stripe dashboard. The refund will appear on Payments, with the payment marked Refunded or Partly refunded, and Magpie will return its fee in proportion to the amount refunded. A refund does not cancel the supporter's subscription; cancel that in Stripe too if the supporter should stop paying.

The seller remains responsible for taxes, refunds, disputes and customer service. A supporter is not a member of the team: joining grants only the post access the program and tier define.

If the public page is live but a paid tier cannot be joined, check Payments and the tier's page. If both are ready, Contact support.
