The Checkout band in Store settings has four settings. Buyers answer them on your Store's Checkout page, before Stripe's payment page opens. Team admins and members with the Manage Store settings permission can change them, except the Newsletter, which only team admins choose.

Terms at checkout

Choose a published Store page, such as your terms of sale, under Terms at checkout. The Checkout page will then show a required box, "I agree to" and the page's title, linked to the page. A buyer cannot go on to payment without ticking it, and the order page shows when they agreed.

Write and publish the page in Pages first (see Store pages such as About, FAQ and Contact). If you unpublish or delete the page, Checkout stops asking. The order records which page was agreed to and when, not the page's text, so keep earlier versions of your terms yourself if you need them.

The box is on your Store's Checkout page rather than Stripe's payment page, so it also applies to an order a gift card pays for in full. You do not need to set a terms address in your Stripe Dashboard.

Newsletter sign-up at checkout

Choose your team's Newsletter under Newsletter sign-up at checkout. The team needs a Newsletter first. Checkout will show an unticked box, "Email me news and offers from" and your Store's name, with a line saying the buyer will be added to the Newsletter when the order is paid. The same box is shown while checkout reminders are on (see below), so one tick covers both.

When a buyer ticks it and the order is paid:

  • the buyer is added to the Newsletter as an active subscriber, with the source Store checkout, without a confirmation email;
  • the buyer's customer page shows Marketing email as agreed, with the date and Store checkout.

The order page shows Marketing email as agreed or not agreed at checkout.

A buyer who leaves the box unticked is not added. An address that unsubscribed from the Newsletter, was removed by an admin, or bounced or complained is not added again. When the Newsletter has reached your plan's subscriber limit, new buyers are not added.

Checkout reminders

A checkout expires when the buyer does not pay while its items are held for them, and the items go back into stock. Under Checkout reminders, choose how long after that to send a reminder. Checkout then shows the box for emails, with a line saying the buyer will get one reminder if they do not finish. A buyer who ticked it will get one email listing the items, with a link that puts them back in their cart; prices and stock are checked again when they check out. Each expired checkout gets at most one reminder.

Reminders need a Contact email under Storefront in Store settings: replies go to it, and the email tells buyers to reply if they do not want more emails from you. Reminders cannot be turned on without one.

No reminder is sent when the buyer did not tick the box, when they started another checkout or ordered after this one, when you turned reminders off or removed the contact email before it was due, when the Store is no longer published, or when their address bounced or complained.

Under Discount code in reminders, choose one of your discount codes. The email shows it while the code can be used, and the cart link applies it. The code's own dates, limits and minimums still apply. See Store discounts and discount codes.

The Checkout reminders row shows how many reminders were sent in the last 30 days and how many became orders. A reminder counts as an order when the same email address pays for an order in your Store within 7 days of it.

Reminders and Newsletter emails are sent in your Store's name, and the rules on marketing email where you and your buyers are apply to you as the sender.

If a buyer who ticked the box is missing from your Newsletter after paying, or a reminder you expected was not sent, Contact support.
