Ouvrir dans Magpie

Payments is the Stripe connection of Personal or a team. Store, Supporters, paid Forms and card payments on invoices all use the same Stripe account, so connecting it once makes it available to each of them.

Connect the account

  1. Open Payments: for Personal it is at /payments; for a team, open the team's page and choose Payments. The Store overview links to it, and Supporters' Get started has its own Connect Stripe button.
  2. Choose Connect Stripe. If Magpie asks for a country, choose the one where you or your business is based and choose Continue to Stripe. Stripe does not allow the country to be changed after the account is created.
  3. On Stripe's pages, enter the identity, business, bank and payout details Stripe asks for.

Returning to Magpie does not by itself mean setup is complete: Magpie checks the account with Stripe and shows one of these:

  • Not connected: no Stripe account yet.
  • Incomplete: Stripe needs more information. Continue setup returns to Stripe.
  • Restricted by Stripe: Stripe has restricted the account and charges cannot run. Continue setup returns to Stripe, which shows what it needs.
  • Ready to accept payments: charges and payouts are both on. Open Stripe dashboard opens Stripe's dashboard, where you sign in to the Stripe account.

Only team admins can connect the account, continue setup or open the Stripe dashboard; other members see the status and "A team admin manages this."

Who the seller is

The connected Stripe account is the seller. Its business name and branding appear in Stripe Checkout, it receives the money, it pays Stripe's processing fees, and it is responsible for refunds, disputes, taxes and customer support. Disputes are answered in the Stripe dashboard.

Fees

Stripe's processing fee applies to every payment. Magpie's own fee depends on what was sold:

  • Supporters: 3% of each payment, renewals included.
  • Paid Forms: 1% by default; the Form's Payment page shows the rate new payments will use.
  • Store orders and invoice card payments: no Magpie fee.

When a payment is refunded, Magpie returns its fee in proportion to the amount refunded.

Payouts

When a Store order, paid Form, invoice or Supporter payment succeeds, Magpie records its fees and the net amount added to the Stripe balance. A Store order shows its fee and net, and Supporters › Payments lists every Supporter payment and refund.

Stripe pays the balance out to the account's bank on its own schedule. The Payouts section of the Payments page lists each payout with its arrival date, status and amount. Open a payout to see the payments, refunds, fees and adjustments it paid, with the gross, fees and net, and whether each payment was a Store order, a Form payment, an invoice payment or a Supporter payment. A payout's transactions appear once Stripe marks it paid. A failed payout shows Stripe's reason. Only team admins see fees and payouts.

When a charge was in a different currency from the account's balance, the amounts shown for it are in the balance currency, converted by Stripe.

Payments and plan billing

Payments is how Personal or a team receives money from customers. Plan billing is what Personal or a team pays Magpie; see Plans, limits, and billing.

If Stripe says setup is complete but Payments still shows Incomplete or Restricted after reloading the page, Contact support.
