Tiers

A tier has a name, what it offers in a few words and in full, and a price or none. Add tier on the Tiers page asks for the name and whether the tier is free or paid; the tier's page holds the rest, and each line saves as soon as it is changed.

A free tier is joined with a Magpie account and no card. One free tier per page. It needs no Stripe account, so a page can be published with a free tier alone.

A paid tier is charged monthly through the team's Stripe account, in the account's currency. Its price belongs to a Stripe Price and cannot change once set; add another tier for a different amount. If Stripe setup does not finish, the tier stays closed until Finish Stripe setup is chosen on its row or its page, without creating a second tier.

The Tiers page shows tiers in the order the public page shows them. Drag a row or use its arrows to change the order.

Turning off Open to join on a tier's page, or choosing Archive tier in its More menu, removes the tier from the public page without ending anyone's support. Everyone on it keeps their access, and the tier can be opened again.

On the free plan a page can have 3 paid tiers, archived ones included, and 200 posts, drafts included. Pro and the Team plan have no limit on either.

Posts

A post is written in the same editor as Notes: a title, then the text, with headings, quotes, lists, links, images from your image library, videos and separators from the toolbar. The editor opens in its Formatted view, which shows the text with its formatting. Markdown shows the same text as Markdown; a change in either view is a change to the post.

A video comes from Screen Recorder: a recording made in the browser, or a file uploaded from the editor, which is saved to Screen Recorder as well. An uploaded file counts toward the plan's Screen Recorder limits. The video file itself can be opened by anyone who has its address, so a video in a post for supporters is not locked the way the text is. A video that is not finished, or that was deleted from Screen Recorder, shows in the editor as a line saying so, and the post cannot be saved until the video is finished or removed.

A poll or survey is a published Form from the same Personal or team, chosen under the post. It is shown under the text to everyone who can read the post and collects responses in Forms.

A cover image is shown above the post and beside it in the list. The excerpt is shown in the list and to readers the post is locked for; left blank, the start of a post everyone can read is used.

Choose one audience:

  • Everyone: anyone who opens the page.
  • All supporters: everyone who joined, the free tier included.
  • Paying supporters: any paid tier, and anyone given complimentary access to one.
  • Chosen tiers: only supporters on the tiers you tick.

Save a post as a draft until it is ready. Publishing applies the audience at once, and a published post can be moved back to draft with Move back to draft in the post editor's More menu, in the page bar. Readers a post is locked for get its title, cover and excerpt, never its text.

Delete post, also in More, deletes a post for good. If a supporter sees only the excerpt after signing in, open their page under Supporters and check their tier and state, then Contact support.
