Idea Boards

Collect pictures, screenshots and web links on an Idea Board, share it with your team and export it.

Image and link items go on the same canvas as notes and to-dos, to be moved, grouped in columns and connected with lines. Pictures are chosen from Your images, Magpie's image library, or pasted onto the board. A board in a team opens for its members, and Export makes a PNG or PDF of the whole board.

Images

Image opens the image picker, which shows Your images and uploads new pictures into it. Several images can be chosen at once, and each will become its own card on the board.

Captions
Each image card has a caption line under the picture.
Download original image
In an image's menu, downloads the picture as it was uploaded.
Replace image
Puts a different picture on the card, keeping its place, width and caption. Undo puts the earlier picture back.
File types
Your images takes JPG, PNG, GIF and WebP files, and HEIC or HEIF photos such as those from an iPhone, which are converted to JPEG when they are uploaded.

Paste from other programs

Pressing Cmd+V or Ctrl+V on the canvas, outside an item being edited, adds what the clipboard holds. With a mouse, the new item goes at the pointer; otherwise it goes in the part of the canvas in view.

  1. A picture, such as a screenshot

Becomes an image item and is uploaded to Your images. Several pictures in one paste are spread out a little, so none is hidden behind another.

  2. A web address

Becomes a link item. A link item holds the address and a title, and the address opens in a new tab.

  3. Any other text

    Becomes a note.

  4. Items copied from the board

Paste back as items. Copying also puts their text on the clipboard, to paste into another program.

Export a board

Export, in the page bar, makes files from the whole board.

Export as PNG
One picture of every item on the board, with the lines between them, cropped to the items.
Export as PDF
The same picture as a one-page PDF, named after the board.
Download all images (.zip)
Every image on the board as a separate file, in one zip file.

Where the images are stored

Your images belongs to your account rather than to a team, so a picture uploaded for one board is also in the image picker for websites, Documents, Books, invoices and the other places that choose a picture, in any of your teams. Uploading a file that is already in the library uses the copy you have instead of storing a second one.

Stored images count toward the file storage of the plan of the person who uploaded them. Your images shows the amount used, and the Billing page gives the limit.

Who can open, change and export a board

A board in Personal opens only for you. A board in a team opens for the team's members: team admins can always edit it, and other members can edit it or only view it, as the team's Member access setting says. A guest of the team opens its boards only when given Idea Boards. Everyone who can open a board can export it.

Share, in the page bar, sends or copies the board's address. Only those people can use it; sharing does not make a board public.

Move to another team will take a board, with its items, lines and images, to another of your teams or to Personal, keeping its address. Move to Trash keeps a board and everything on it for 30 days, to restore.

On the free plan, Personal or a team can have 3 Idea Boards, each with up to 150 items. Pro and the Team plan have no limit on either. A board in Trash does not count toward the number of boards.

Paste your first screenshot onto a board.

Create a Magpie account, open Idea Boards and choose New board, then paste a picture or a web address onto the canvas.
