Select Get started free to create an account. Enter your email address and select Continue, then enter your name and a password. If the address already has an account, Magpie offers Log in instead of creating a second one. You can also continue with Apple, Google or LinkedIn when those methods are available. A social provider can also be linked to an existing account that uses the same verified email address.

An account created with an email address and password is sent a link to confirm the address. Inviting people to a team and buying a plan wait until it is confirmed. After the account is created, Magpie asks a few setup questions; see Set up Magpie after signing up.

With Apple you can choose Hide My Email. Magpie then receives an Apple relay address instead of your own, and that relay address becomes the account's email address. Mail to it reaches you through Apple. Because the relay address differs from any address you used before, Hide My Email starts a new account rather than signing in to an existing one; to use Apple with an existing account, connect it in Account settings.

Some installations require an invite code. Enter and verify the code first; the registration choices appear after it is accepted. The code is not used until the account is created. See Invitations and invite codes.

To set Magpie up for a team, choose A team during setup and name it. Email, Google, LinkedIn and Apple signup all continue to the same setup. A Start a team link (/register?for=team) preselects A team; if you are already signed in, it opens team creation directly. The new team becomes your website selection; the app keeps its own selection. Free teams include three members, including you, and do not require payment. See Create and manage a team.

A valid team invitation permits signup for the email address it names without a separate site invite code. Open the invitation first. After creating the account, return to it and select Join team. An OAuth account must share the invited email address; Apple's Hide My Email address will not match an invitation sent to your usual address.

In the mobile app, Continue with Apple and Continue with Google create an account when none exists for that Apple or Google account, with no password needed. If invite codes are required, the app cannot create the account.

Sign in later

Open Log in and enter your email address and password. If you cannot use the password, open Email me a sign-in link below the form and enter your email address there instead. The link is sent to the account email address and should be opened only by the person signing in.

If two-factor authentication is on, the next screen asks for the six-digit code from your authenticator app. Use a recovery code on that screen accepts one of the codes you saved when you set two-factor up. See Password and two-factor authentication.

Apple, Google and LinkedIn buttons are sign-in methods, not the Google Calendar or other product integrations. Linking or unlinking them is done in Account settings. A method cannot be unlinked while it is the only way to sign in; set a password or link another method first.

Too many attempts

After about ten wrong passwords in an hour, the next attempt has to wait. The message names the wait, which starts at a minute and grows if the wrong password keeps being sent. Signing in correctly clears it straight away, and every wait ends on its own without anyone having to unlock the account.

Requests for a sign-in link are limited the same way, per email address. If you have asked for several links and none arrived, check the spam folder rather than asking again; the newest link is the only one that works.

If you cannot reach the email address on the account or every sign-in method fails, Contact support.
