Supporters

See every supporter, give complimentary access, and follow each payment, fee and refund.

Paid tiers are charged by card through the team's own Stripe account, which is the seller and receives the money. Magpie's Supporters fee is 3% of each payment, renewals included, and Stripe's processing fee applies as well. The Supporters list and the Payments page show who supports the page, how they support it, and what each payment brought in.

The team's Stripe account is the seller

A team admin connects one Stripe account for Personal or the team, and Stripe asks for the identity, business and bank details. Store, paid Forms and card payments on invoices use the same account, so it is connected once.

The connected account is the seller. Its business name and branding appear in Stripe Checkout, it receives the money and pays Stripe's processing fees, and it is responsible for refunds, disputes, taxes and customer service. Disputes are answered in the Stripe dashboard.

Payments, fees and payouts

Magpie's fee
3% of each payment, the first and every renewal. Stripe's processing fee is taken from the Stripe account as well.
The Payments page
Every payment to the page, with the supporter, tier, amount, status, fees, net amount and any refunds. Totals received and refunded are shown for each currency.
Payouts
Stripe pays the balance to the account's bank on its own schedule. Team admins see each payout, with the Supporter payments, fees and refunds it paid.
Accounting
Supporter payments are added to the books as Supporter income, through Stripe balance, and their fees as Payment processing fees. Each entry links to Supporters' Payments page.

The supporters list

The Supporters list shows everyone who supports the page or did: paying through Stripe, on the free tier, or with complimentary access. Filters narrow it by how they support, by current or ended support, and by tier.

A supporter's page
Their tier, how they support and since when. For a paid supporter, what Stripe records: the amount, the card, the renewal or end date, and why the subscription was cancelled when Stripe has a reason.
History
Every change to the supporter's support: joining, payment states, moves between tiers and how it ended.
In Stripe
The supporter's page opens their customer and subscription in the Stripe dashboard.
Who sees it
Team admins. Email addresses and billing details are shown to team admins only.

Complimentary access

A team admin can open any tier to someone without payment, by the email address or handle of their Magpie account, with an optional end date and a note only admins see. They get the same welcome email as any supporter, and any number of people can have it.

At a paid tier
Opens posts for paying supporters and posts for that tier.
Ending it
Access ends on its end date, or when an admin ends it from the supporter's page. Giving the same person access again changes their tier and end date.

Cancellations and refunds

  1. A supporter cancels

Who you support, in the account menu, lists every page a person supports. A paid supporter opens Stripe's customer portal from it to update their card, see invoices, or cancel at the end of the billing period.

  2. A free supporter leaves

Leaving the free tier, from the same page, takes effect at once.

  3. Access follows Stripe

A paid supporter can read their posts while Stripe reports the subscription as active, or while it retries a failed payment. Access ends when the subscription ends.

  4. Another paid tier

A supporter joins a different paid tier from the public page once their current paid tier has ended.

  5. A refund

Refund a payment in the Stripe dashboard. Payments will mark it Refunded or Partly refunded, and Magpie will return its fee in proportion to the amount refunded. A refund leaves the subscription running; cancel it in Stripe too if the supporter should stop paying.
