Supporters

Write posts with images, video and polls, and choose which supporters can read each one.

A Supporters post is written in the same editor as Notes and published on the supporter page. Each post has one audience: everyone, all supporters, paying supporters or chosen tiers. Readers outside the audience see its title, cover and excerpt, never its text.

The post editor

A post has a title, then its text. The editor opens in its Formatted view, which shows the text with its formatting; the Markdown view shows the same text as Markdown, and a change in either view is a change to the post.

Text
Headings, quotes, lists, links and separators from the toolbar.
Images
Pictures from Your images, the image library used across Magpie, or uploaded into it from the editor.
Cover and excerpt
The cover is shown above the post and beside it in the list. The excerpt is shown in the list and to readers the post is locked for; left blank, the start of a post everyone can read is used.
Drafts
A post is kept as a draft until it is published. A published post can be moved back to draft from the editor's File menu.

Four audiences

Each post has one audience, applied as soon as it is published.

Everyone
Anyone who opens the page, signed in or not.
All supporters
Everyone who joined, the free tier included.
Paying supporters
Supporters on any paid tier, and anyone given complimentary access to one.
Chosen tiers
Only supporters on the tiers ticked under the post. At least one tier that can be joined has to be ticked.

What a locked post shows

In the list, a locked post shows its title, date, cover and excerpt, marked Locked and labelled For supporters, For paying supporters or For chosen tiers.

The post's own page names the tiers that open it, with a Join button for each and Sign in for a visitor who already supports the page. Magpie leaves a locked post's text and its poll out of the page entirely, so they are not in the page's code either.

Video from Screen Recorder

A video in a post is a Screen Recorder recording, shown with a player inside the text.

Record or upload
Choose a recording made in the browser, or upload a video file from the editor. An uploaded file is saved to Screen Recorder too, and counts toward the plan's Screen Recorder limits.
Finished recordings
A video that is not finished, or was deleted from Screen Recorder, shows in the editor as a line saying so. The post can be saved once that video is finished or removed.
The video file
The video file has its own unlisted address, which anyone who has it can open. The text of a post is locked to its audience, and its video file is not.

Polls and surveys from Forms

Any published Form from the same Personal or team can be shown under a post as a poll or survey. It is shown to everyone who can read the post, and its responses are collected in Forms with the Form's other responses.

Who writes posts

Team admins write, publish and delete posts. On the free plan a page can have 200 posts, drafts included; Pro and the Team plan have no limit.
