Supporters

Publish a supporter page with a free tier and monthly paid tiers that people join with a Magpie account.

Supporters gives Personal or a team one public page, at /support/ followed by the page's address. Visitors read the page's description, its tiers and its posts, then join the free tier at once or pay for a monthly tier by card through Stripe. A supporter joins with a Magpie account and does not become a member of the team.

What the public page shows

The page shows the team's name as its author, then its own name, description and cover image, chosen from Your images. The sections below it are in this order.

Tiers
Each tier's name, its price a month or Free, what it offers in a few words and in full, and a Join button.
About
A longer section written in Markdown: who you are, what supporters get, how often you post.
Posts
Published posts, newest first. A post the visitor cannot read keeps its title, cover and excerpt and says who it is for.
Supporter numbers
Three settings choose whether the page shows how many supporters it has, how many are on each tier, and what the paid tiers add up to each month. All three are off until turned on.

Free and paid tiers

A tier has a name, a line about what it offers, a longer description, and a price or none. Its details save as soon as they are changed.

The free tier
One per page, joined with a Magpie account and no card. It needs no Stripe account, so a page can be published with a free tier alone.
Paid tiers
Charged every month by card through the team's own Stripe account, in that account's currency. The Stripe account is connected before the first paid tier is added.
A fixed price
A paid tier's price is a Stripe Price and does not change once set. For a different amount, add another tier. The name and descriptions can change at any time.
Order
The public page shows tiers in the order of the Tiers page. Drag a row, or use its arrows, to move it.
Closing a tier
Turning off Open to join, or archiving the tier, takes it off the public page. Everyone already on it keeps their access, and the tier can be opened again.
Plans
Supporters is on every plan. On the free plan a page can have 3 paid tiers, archived ones included; Pro and the Team plan have no limit.

How someone joins

  1. Choose a tier

Join is on each tier, and on any post the visitor cannot read yet, next to the tiers that open it.

  2. Sign in or create an account

Joining needs a Magpie account. A visitor without one creates it on the way and comes back to the same tier.

  3. Join free, or pay through Stripe

A free tier is joined at once, and posts for supporters open straight away. A paid tier continues to Stripe Checkout, which shows the seller's business name, and renews every month until it is cancelled.

  4. The welcome

The new supporter will see the page's welcome message and get it in a welcome email. Each team admin will get an email naming the supporter and their tier, unless that setting is turned off.

Publishing the page and its address

The page can be published once it has a tier that can be joined: a free tier, or a paid tier with a ready Stripe account behind it. One switch on the Supporters overview publishes it and shows the address to share.

The address can be changed on the page's profile. Links to the old address will stop working.

A live page with paid supporters stays online until their subscriptions have ended, so Stripe cannot keep charging for a page that is gone. Free supporters do not keep a page online.

Who runs the page

Each Personal or team has one supporter page. Team admins set it up, change its tiers, write its posts, and see its supporters and payments; in Personal, that is you. Other members of the team see the overview: whether the page is live and how many support it.

Supporters are not members of the team. Joining opens only the posts that the supporter's tier allows.
