Agreements

Answer an agreement's questions, see the text fill in, and send it to each party to sign.

An agreement is one use of a standard agreement from the Library: your answers, the text with your answers filled in, and the signature request made from it. Each answer saves on its own, and the text further down the page shows it as it will be printed. Send for signature makes a PDF and an E-Signatures request with each party as a signer.

Answering the questions

The questions are grouped by party, such as the company and the investor, and then the terms. Select an answer to change it. It saves when you press Enter or leave it, and is shown as it will be printed: an amount typed as 100000 shows as $100,000.

Required and optional
A question marked with a red asterisk has to be answered before sending. One marked (optional) can be left empty. Switches always have an answer.
Tick lists
Each line of a tick list is a switch. The text shows the form's own ticked box, such as [ x ], or its empty box.
Choices
A choice between alternatives prints the alternative you choose, in the form's own words.
Questions that depend on another
Appear once that one is answered a certain way: in Common Paper's professional services agreement, the rejection period appears when you turn on the acceptance process.
Rows the publisher says to delete
A row such as Insurance Minimums is left out of the text when you turn it off, and its questions are not asked.
Suggested answers
Some agreements start with the wording the publisher suggests, such as an NDA's purpose, and the boxes the publisher ticks. Change them like any other answer.

The text fills in as you answer

Below the questions, the agreement's text shows each answer in place. A required question you have not answered shows in the text as its name in brackets, such as [Purchase amount].

The line under the agreement's title says how many required questions are left and names the next one, with a link to it. The count can rise as you answer, when an answer brings in a question that depends on it.

Answers filled in for you

Your company's last answers
When Personal or the team has started the same standard agreement before, your company's answers from the most recent one are filled in.
The business name
Otherwise the company name comes from the business name in Invoicing settings, when one is set.
Contacts
Email address questions suggest your contacts. When a party's email address belongs to a contact, the contact is linked and their name is filled in if it was empty. The contact's history records when an agreement with them was started and sent for signature.

Sending for signature

  1. Answer every required question

Including an email address for each party who signs. Selected before then, Send for signature sends nothing: each question still to answer shows Needed before sending, and the page moves to the first one.

  2. Confirm

Magpie freezes the answers and the text, makes a PDF and creates a signature request in E-Signatures with each party as a signer. Each party gets a signature field on every signature line of theirs and a Date signed field on every date line; an agreement with two signature pages, such as a statement of work and its key terms, is signed in both places.

  3. Check it and send it in E-Signatures

The request starts with signers in any order, an expiry of 30 days and no reminders. Change those if you need to, then choose Send to signers. E-Signatures emails each signer a link of their own, and signers do not need a Magpie account.

  4. Follow it on the agreement

The agreement's page shows the request's status and links to it. Once everyone has signed, Download signed PDF is beside the agreement's title and the certificate of completion is in More.

Downloads, corrections and deleting

The text with your answers, at any stage. Before sending, each page says Draft at the top.
Correcting a sent agreement
After sending, the answers and text stay as they were sent. Void the request in E-Signatures, then choose Duplicate in the agreement's More menu: the copy is a new draft with the same answers and linked contacts, to correct and send.
Delete agreement
Not available while its signature request is waiting to be sent or out for signing. Deleting an agreement leaves its signature request in E-Signatures.

Who can see and change agreements

Agreements belong to Personal or to the selected team. In a team, members with edit access can start, answer, send and delete them, and members with view access can read them and download their PDFs.

Not legal advice

Magpie fills in the standard text with your answers. It is not legal advice: Magpie is not a law firm, is not acting as your lawyer, and does not check that an agreement suits your situation or can be enforced where you are. Have a lawyer review an agreement before anyone signs it.
