Calendar

Show your Google events in Magpie and add Magpie events to Google Calendar.

Connect Google Calendar once, from Integrations, and it works in both directions. Your Google events appear on your Personal Calendar in Magpie, and the events of Personal and the teams you choose are added to your Google calendar. Times that are busy in Google cannot be booked on your meeting page.

One connection, on your account

The connection is made in the Google Calendar section of Integrations, under Meetings. Google asks you to allow calendar access, then returns you to Integrations. Magpie uses your primary Google calendar.

The connection belongs to your account, not to Personal or a team, so each member of a team connects their own Google calendar. Calendar settings shows whether Google Calendar is connected, whether Google events show and which calendars are added to Google.

Google events on your Personal Calendar

Show Google events on Calendar is on when you connect. Your Google events then appear on your Personal Calendar in Agenda, Day and Month, with their own marker.

Only you see them
Google events appear on your Personal Calendar only, never on a team Calendar.
Read-only in Magpie
Selecting a Google event opens it in Google Calendar, where it is changed.
Kept up to date
While Calendar is open, changes made in Google appear within about a minute, without reloading.
Declined and duplicate events
Events you declined in Google are left out, and Magpie's own copies of its meetings and events are not shown twice.

Magpie events in Google Calendar

Calendars added to Google Calendar lists Personal and each team you belong to. Each one has its own choice.

  1. Personal

All events or Not added. Personal starts as All events.

  2. Each team

All events, Only events I'm going to (the events you created or answered Going to) or Not added. Teams start as Not added.

  3. Added within about a minute

Events from the calendars you choose, including upcoming events that already exist, will be added to your primary Google calendar.

  4. Changes follow

Changing or deleting an event in Magpie changes or deletes its Google copy. Answering Going to a team event adds it when that team is set to Only events I'm going to.

What each copy shows

Each person's copy follows what Magpie shows that person, so a team event's details reach Google only for the members who could see them in Magpie.

Busy only and title-only events
A team event you can see only as busy is added as "Busy", and a title-only event is added without its description or location.
Your own copy
Copies are not shared with other people and send no invitations.
Edits in Google
Changes made to a copy in Google do not change the event in Magpie. A copy you delete in Google Calendar will not be added again.
Leaving a calendar
Choosing Not added, leaving a team or the team being archived removes that calendar's upcoming events from Google Calendar. Past events stay.

Busy times and your meeting page

While Google Calendar is connected, times that are busy in your primary Google calendar cannot be chosen on your meeting page, together with your Magpie events and meetings. Busy times are always on while connected.

The same connection can add each new meeting from your meeting page to Google Calendar, with a Google Meet link when Zoom is not connected; that is set up with Meetings.

Disconnect or reconnect

Disconnect stops Magpie reading your Google calendar, adding events to it and checking it for busy times. Events already in Google Calendar stay there.

If Google's permission expires or is removed, Integrations shows Reconnect required and Calendar says Google events cannot be shown. Until you reconnect, Google busy times will not block your meeting page.

Connect your Google calendar.

Create a Magpie account, then open Integrations under Meetings and connect Google Calendar.
