The mobile app is in development. These instructions apply if you have been given a compiled development or preview build. They do not mean the app is available in the App Store or Google Play.

The sign-in screen lists Continue with Apple, Continue with Google and Continue with LinkedIn when the account uses one of them, and Continue with email for a Magpie email and password. On iPhone and iPad, Apple uses the device's own Apple sign-in; the others open the system's sign-in sheet and return to the app. Continue with email opens a separate screen with the email and password fields; Show beside the password field reveals what you typed. The app signs in to existing accounts only: an Apple, Google or LinkedIn account that no Magpie account uses is told so rather than given a new account. If two-factor authentication is on, enter an authenticator code or an unused recovery code. Create an account and recover a forgotten password on the website. Your photo and name are at the top of More; choose them to open Account settings, which shows your profile and lets you change your display name, profile photo from your account image library, bio, time zone and sign-in email (Your public profile and account details explains how an email change is confirmed). Handle, password, two-factor authentication and account deletion remain on the website. More includes a Plan and billing view for the selected context, showing its plan, renewal or cancellation state and bounded usage. On Personal, you can buy Pro through the App Store or Google Play, restore a store purchase, and open the store's subscription settings on the same platform. A team you own uses your Personal plan. Notification settings are available in More for Slack meeting notifications; connecting Slack still is available on the website.

The app keeps the device signed in while it is used. The mobile session expires after 90 days without use, so a regularly used device should not need repeated sign-in. When the app returns to the foreground, it checks the session and updates the account profile without leaving the current screen in a loading state. A temporary network failure keeps the current session available; an expired session signs out and returns to sign-in. Sign out from More when the device should no longer have access.

Use the name at the top of a tab to choose Personal or a team. Notes, Contacts, To-dos and chat use that selection. Meetings belong to your account. Lists of team-owned things, and Messages, name the selection above the list, such as "Acme Ltd", beside a mark with its initial: dark for a team, light for Personal. When you belong to more than one team, tap that name to choose a different one without leaving the list. Your teams in More lists them too; tap one to choose it. An empty list says where it looked, and a create screen says where the new item will belong.

The app remembers its own selection, separate from the website's: switching in the app does not change the website, and switching on the website does not change the app. Until you choose in the app, it starts from the website's selection. Whenever the selection changes, the app shows "Now using" and the team's name at the bottom of the screen.

Access and plan limits still apply. A native link or notification can include its team context. If that team is available to your account, the app switches to it before opening the object. A link cannot grant access to a team or object you do not have.

Native feature lists, create screens, detail screens, settings, and nested screens include a back button that returns to the feature list or the screen that opened them. iOS also supports the standard swipe gesture, and Android supports its system back gesture.

Each tool has a subtle background colour in light and dark mode. The colour helps identify the current section; it does not indicate a status. Screen headers and menus follow the normal controls for iOS or Android. Less frequent actions such as sharing, settings and deletion are usually in the screen's action menu so the content and its main action remain prominent.

Finding and creating work

Home starts with All tools, which opens the full list of tools in More. Below it are your pinned tools and recent work supported by the website. Recent work comes from Personal and every team you belong to. When you are in more than one team, each item shows its team. Opening an item from another team switches to that team first. Recent Documents, Forms, Invoices, Spreadsheets, Screen recordings, Design files, Presentations and Message Boards open their native detail views.

To take one item out of Recent work, swipe it to the left and choose Remove. With VoiceOver or TalkBack, use the item's Remove from Recent work action. Clear beside the Recent work heading removes every item after you confirm. Removing or clearing does not delete the work, and it applies on the website too. An item returns to Recent work the next time you open it.

Search looks in Personal and every team by default. Everything shows a few matches from each tool; choose a tool in Search in to see more. Each result shows its team, and opening one from another team switches to that team. Team members, Store and Links searches use the current selection and name it above the results.

More lists all tools available to your account in one alphabetical list. Use Find a tool to search its name or summary. Pin or unpin a tool there to change Home in the selected Personal or team context. The star changes as soon as you tap it; if the change cannot be saved, it returns to its previous state. Only tools that work in the app are listed. Help in More shows these Help articles in the app, with search and links between articles.

More also lists Integrations. The native view shows account-owned provider status without credentials or settings. Open the website from that view to connect, disconnect or change an integration.

More also lists Security. The native view shows active mobile sessions for your account, including which session belongs to the current device and when a session was last used or will expire. It does not show credentials, IP addresses, or device fingerprints. Choose Revoke beside another active session, then confirm to sign that device out. The current device cannot be revoked from this screen.

More also lists Team members. When a shared team is selected, the native view shows its members, email addresses, roles and owner. Search the directory or filter it by Admins or Members. Team admins can select a member to change their role or remove them, subject to the same owner and last-admin protections as the website. The current owner can transfer ownership to another team administrator after a confirmation. Personal has no team member directory.

More also lists Your images. The account-owned library can search, filter by image type, sort, upload or remove images, and a thumbnail opens a full authenticated preview in the native app. From that preview, choose Edit in Image Converter to crop, resize or convert a new copy; the original is not changed. Images already attached to Chat messages remain available when removed from the library.

More also lists Image Converter. The native workflow converts one image from the account library or device, with server-provided size presets, crop ratios, crop coordinates, resize, fit, rotation, flips, format, quality and maximum file-size controls. Add output presets to create several results from one source, share them as a ZIP, save them to the image library, or review recent conversions. Batch conversion applies the same rules to several images and can share a ZIP or save completed images to the library. The native crop rectangle can be moved by dragging or resized with its corners; the full crop workspace remains on the website.

More also lists Favicon Generator. Choose an image from the account image library, upload one from your device or take a photo, create a website icon project, and share the generated ZIP from the native app. An uploaded image stays in your image library. Clipboard paste remains on the Web.

More also lists Message Boards and Presentations. Message Boards keeps discussion in the selected Personal or team context; Presentations manages deck status, publishing, link sharing, sharing a published link, duplication, deletion, direct collaborators, and slide text and speaker notes. The board creator or a team admin can change a board's name, description and visibility from Board settings in its action menu. The board creator and team admins can remove any post or comment. Use the Web for slide layout.

More also lists Newsletter. Start the publication for the selected Personal or team context when you are an admin, review its bounded email history, write Markdown drafts, save and send an email now, send a saved draft as a test to your account email address, schedule it in your account time zone, and confirm send-now or cancel a queued email. Team admins can search, filter and remove subscribers and change newsletter settings; they can import consented addresses and share the full subscriber CSV.

More also lists Design. Review Design files in the selected Personal or team context, create files, review and add comments or replies, resolve comments, and duplicate, archive, restore or delete files. If you manage a file's sharing, choose Collaborators from its action menu to add a username as a Viewer, Commenter or Editor, change that access, or remove it. Version history lists saved versions; editors can name the current version and managers can restore one. Branches lists Branches; editors can create one or update it from Main, and managers can merge it. The canvas editor, Pages and layers remain on the Web.

Website administration, such as Promotions and Data Removal activity, is not in the app. It is on the website only.

Search finds tools and searches Notes, Contacts, open or completed To-dos, Meetings, Documents, Kanban boards, Idea Workspaces, Forms, Invoices, Spreadsheets, Podcasts, QR Codes, Websites, Screen recordings, Books, Repositories, Design files, Presentations, Message Boards and the selected Personal or team Links profile, blocks and social profiles. In a shared team it also searches team members. Team admins can search Store products and orders. Restricted scopes appear only when the current account and the selected Personal or team context can read them. Team-owned results use that context; Books, Podcasts and Repositories use their account scope. Choose the kind of result. Use Load more for another page. Pull down on a native list to refresh it. Links is not included because it is one list for the selected Personal or team context rather than a searchable collection. Create offers the native creation actions the selected Personal or team context permits. Links to Podcast or Screen Recorder list pages from the website open the native lists. A Screen Recorder link with a supported recording identifier opens the native recording detail view. A Podcast recording invitation opens the native invitation, and a link to a recording session or its review opens that session in the app.

Available workflows

  • Notes: search, read Markdown, create and edit notes, or delete notes you are allowed to delete. Leaving an unsaved edit asks for confirmation. Drafts are kept in the device's protected store and synced privately to Magpie when possible, so a draft can be recovered on another signed-in device. A draft never changes the saved Note until you choose Save.
  • Documents: search the selected context's documents. Documents shared with you follow under Shared with me. Read headings, text, lists, tables and referenced pictures, create a document with initial text, and select Edit to change its title and text in one continuous writing field. From the native Documents list, choose Import to create a document from a DOCX, ODT, Markdown, HTML or plain text file; import warnings are shown after it opens. Headings, lists, quotes, code, footnotes and endnotes remain structured when saved. Existing inline formatting and links are preserved, and selected text can be made bold, italic, underlined, struck through, inline code or a link. Tables can be added and edited in native mode: new tables start with a two-by-two header table, and you can change cell text, choose a header row, and add or remove bounded rows and columns before saving. Equations can be added and edited through their expression, display mode and screen-reader description fields. Footnotes and endnotes can be added with bounded text and edited in the native writing surface. Add citations and a bibliography, then edit citation metadata and locators in native mode, along with bibliography style, cross-reference fields and bookmark names, and can add new cross-references and bookmarks with bounded target fields. When a document defines custom styles, structured blocks can use those styles in native mode. Other advanced blocks stay in position but remain read-only in native editing. In Edit, use each section's format control to switch between paragraphs, headings, bullet or numbered lists, quotes, code and notes. Choose Add picture to upload a picture from the library or camera; it is added to the document when you save. In Edit, choose Replace picture for an existing picture, edit its Alt text or Caption, or choose Remove picture to remove its document block; neither action deletes the image from your account library. Use the Move section or Move block controls to change document order before saving. In Edit, you can also add a horizontal rule, page break, section break or table of contents block. Advanced blocks can be removed with confirmation; removing a picture does not delete the image from your account library. Page layout controls cover mode, paper, orientation, margins, columns, headers, footers, page numbers and the ruler. From a document's More menu, share a PDF, DOCX, clean DOCX, ODT, Markdown, HTML or plain-text export. Editors can manage direct Viewer, Reviewer or Editor access by Magpie username. Read and add document comments in the native view. Comment authors and document editors can resolve or reopen comments there. Document editors can review, accept or reject pending suggestions in the native review view.
  • Kanban boards: search boards or create one in the selected Personal or team context. Opening a board shows the cards in one column; use the column row to switch columns and see each column's card count. Create cards or edit their title, description and due date. Choose a destination column and move a card to its start or end. Moving a suggestion out of Inbox approves it, as on the website. Read and add card comments in the native view, and assign a card to a team member. Edit board details and outside access, manage columns, or delete a board from its native settings screen. If someone changes a card during your edit, cancel the edit to reload it before making a new change.
  • Issues: search the selected context's issues, or show only those assigned to you or in one status. Create an issue with a title, description and project. On an issue, tap the title, status, priority, assignee or due date to change it; each change saves straight away. Edit the description, read and add comments, and move an issue to Trash or restore it from Trash in the list's action menu. See Create and track issues.
  • Contacts: search and read contact details, create a contact, choose or take a private contact photo, and edit its structured name, display name, company, notes, email and phone lists, addresses, tags and billing details. The reading view groups related details and shows a bounded invoice history; open an invoice or choose New invoice for this contact from the native view. The header pencil opens the editor, where Save and Cancel remain available while you scroll. Short Contact drafts are kept in the device's protected store until the Contact is saved or discarded; an oversized draft remains in the editor and is not partly persisted. A contact with invoices cannot be deleted. Editors can select up to 100 contacts, or every contact a search shows, to delete together, and import contacts from a pasted JSON document.
  • Invoices: search and read invoice history for the selected Personal or team context, filter by Draft, Due, Overdue, Paid or Void, and open line items, dates, customer details and totals. Share the invoice link or PDF from its native detail view. Editors can create and edit draft invoices with contacts, dates, currency, line items, discounts, tax, notes and terms. Editors can also mark an issued invoice paid or unpaid, void or reopen it, duplicate an invoice, or delete a draft from the native action menu. From the native invoice Settings screen, editors can review and change numbering, new-invoice defaults, business details and the invoice logo. The full settings page is available on the website.
  • To-dos: search open or completed items, create an item, set its When date, time, Deadline, priority, List and assignee, change its title or notes, mark it complete or reopen it, and delete it. Add checklist items and tags in the native detail view. Create, edit, archive and share To-do Lists from the native List manager. A List shows its current collaborators first; use Add person to open the direct-sharing form, and use the List action menu to edit or archive it. Choose a repeat pattern when creating a To-do, change an active repeat pattern, or stop future occurrences from its detail view. Set, clear or snooze reminders there as well. Choose Select To-dos from the list action menu to select several items and complete, move, mark Someday, or delete them together.
  • Meetings: request a meeting by choosing an active Meeting Type, an available date and time, then entering the attendee details. Review upcoming or past bookings, open a meeting link, share the joining link, confirm a meeting or cancel it. The meeting list's Show row switches between upcoming and all meetings; scheduling settings and the website meeting page are in its action menu. Create, edit, activate or delete Meeting Types, and add or delete weekly Availability windows. Add actions are in each list's native header. Open a meeting to choose another available time and decide whether to email the attendee. The meeting detail view also edits the attendee name, email, phone number and private notes. Add Zoom when the connected account and meeting state allow it, open the private host link, and include an optional note when confirming. History meetings can be archived, and archived meetings can be permanently deleted after confirmation. While attendee details are being edited, a short recovery copy is kept in the device's protected store. It is not restored when the meeting changed elsewhere, and is removed after save or cancellation.
  • Calendar: browse a weekly agenda, and create, edit or delete Calendar events. Short event drafts are kept in the device's protected store while you edit. A draft is restored only when its saved event revision still matches; drafts are cleared after save, delete or discard. Meeting, To-do and event visibility follows the website. When editing an existing event, its invitations and deletion are in the event action menu so they do not compete with saving the event. Calendar settings can change the 10- or 15-minute time increment. For non-private events, send an email invitation or create a reusable invitation link, and revoke active invitations, in the native app. Meeting-slot event settings are available on the website. Public events can also be shared from the event action menu.
  • Reader: read stored RSS, Atom and Bluesky entries, filter to unread entries or one subscription, page through older entries, open an original entry and mark entries read or unread. Add or remove subscriptions, explicitly refresh a source, see failed feed checks and their last successful date, and choose the display mode from the native subscription screen.
  • Password Vault: set up or recover the encrypted vault, unlock it, create and edit any item type with its custom fields, tags and favorite, generate a password for a login, and move items through Trash. Passwords, decrypted contents and unwrapped keys stay on the device. Import passwords from another password manager's CSV file, and export the encrypted backup, from the action menu.
  • Video Chat: start or join a two-person call, share its four-letter code, mute the microphone, turn the camera off, and leave the call from native controls. The server still owns room authorization and the call deadline.
  • Favicon Generator: choose an account image, upload one from your device or take a photo, then share the website icon package. Clipboard paste remains on the Web.
  • Message Boards: browse boards in the selected Personal or team context, read Markdown posts and comments, create posts and comments, vote, and remove content you own. The board creator or a team admin can change the board's name, description and visibility.
  • Presentations: browse and create slide decks, review publication status, publish, change link sharing, share a published link, duplicate, delete and manage direct collaborators, and edit slide titles, text, speaker notes, visibility and order, and share a PDF of the draft. Slide layout, pictures and shapes remain on the Web.
  • Newsletter: start the selected context's publication, review bounded email history, write Markdown drafts, edit or delete drafts, save and send an email now, send a saved draft as a test to your account email address, and schedule a saved draft in your account time zone, and confirm send-now or cancel queued email. Team admins can search, filter and remove subscribers, change newsletter settings and share the full subscriber CSV and import consented addresses.
  • Design: review Design files in the selected Personal or team context, create files, review and add comments or replies, resolve comments, duplicate, archive, restore and delete them, manage direct collaborators, review, name and restore versions, and create, update and merge Branches. Canvas editing, Pages and layers are available on the website.
  • Messages: use New message to choose a person, or use the action menu to create a channel when you are a team administrator. Open channels or direct conversations, read older messages, send text, reply in threads, delete messages you can delete, and add or remove supported reactions. The open conversation shows members active in it. Tap a message author to see their team role, bio, email, local time and a direct-message action. Team administrators can create, archive and restore channels from the native conversation list. Pictures already attached to messages appear in the conversation and can be expanded. Choose an image from the photo library or take a photo in the composer before sending it. Record a voice note of up to two minutes, review it, and send it from the conversation or a thread; voice notes attached to visible messages can be played in the app. Supported PDF, Office, text and archive files can be attached and shared from visible messages. When the compiled app has its Expo project configured, it can ask for notification permission, register the device privately, and show a privacy-safe alert when a visible Chat conversation receives a message.
  • Notification settings: choose a Slack channel or direct-message recipient and the meeting changes that notify them. Push registration is handled by the native app after permission is granted; the screen shows whether a device is registered. The server checks delivery receipts and removes a device when the push provider reports that it is no longer registered. Store notification credentials and live delivery verification remain a release requirement.
  • Links list: view the selected Personal or team context's Links blocks and social profiles, create a list, edit its public address, display name, description and preview text, configure preset appearance choices, publish or unpublish it, add, edit, duplicate, delete, move, show and hide ordinary link blocks, manage social profiles, view aggregate page views, clicks, click-through rate and per-link click counts, and open a link from the native app. A published list's address can be shared from the native Links action menu, and an individual link can be opened or shared from its native detail view. Editors can set or remove the header picture and give a link its own colour.
  • Forms: search Forms in the selected Personal or team context, filter by Draft, Published or Closed status, read their status and view/response counts, read a question-by-question response summary, and open bounded response lists and individual submitted answers. Form editors can mark a response New, Reviewed or Archived. Uploaded response files can be downloaded or shared from the response view, response links can be shared from native actions, and published Forms can be shared from native actions. Form building, publishing, settings, response deletion and CSV export are available on the website.
  • QR Codes: search saved QR Code metadata, filter by Static or Dynamic mode and Enabled or Disabled state, create website, plain-text, Wi-Fi, contact, email, phone, SMS or calendar codes, inspect a code's safe destination, scan count and expiry, change dynamic destinations, toggle codes, delete codes, share a QR page link, and share a saved QR Code as an SVG image, PNG image or PDF from native actions. Editors can also change the saved export size, clear-space margin, error correction and foreground/background colours, and choose or remove a logo from the account image library. The native detail menu can also print a saved QR Code PDF. Dynamic codes have a native aggregate scan-count screen; visitor details are not recorded and other analytics management is available on the website.
  • Podcasts: search your account's Podcasts, filter by Enabled or Disabled state, open published episode details, play episodes with seeking and playback-speed controls, and share the podcast or an episode from native actions. Playback can continue in the background. Record records an episode on the phone, on your own or with other people; see Record a podcast episode. Uploading an MP3 and podcast settings are available on the website.
  • Websites: search and filter the selected Personal or team context's Websites by Published or Draft status, read publication metadata and safe page links, and share published Website pages from native actions. Website creation, editing, publishing, appearance and deletion are available on the website.
  • Screen recordings: search ready recordings, sort by newest, oldest or title, watch a recording, share its link, rename, delete, share the recording file, view analytics and change share-page settings. Upload saves an MP4 or WebM video from the device as a recording. Recording in the browser and editing are available on the website.
  • Idea Workspaces: create a workspace, search by title, review the bounded native canvas projection and share the authorized workspace Web link. Editors can rename or delete a workspace, create, edit and delete notes, to-dos, links and columns, and move a card into or out of a column. Dragging and image, comment and connector items are available on the website.
  • Books: search account-owned Books, filter by Draft or Published status and Private or Public visibility, and read bounded contents. Editing and publishing are available on the website.
  • Git repositories: search repositories, filter by Active or Archived state and Private or Public visibility, inspect safe metadata and clone URLs, and share either the Web repository link or credential-free HTTPS clone URL. Files, commits, branches, tokens and administration are available on the website or through Git transport surfaces.
  • Store: team administrators can create draft physical or digital products, review and edit products, upload product images directly or attach image-library images or private digital files, manage collections and shipping zones, publish or archive products, and publish or unpublish the Store after its checklist is complete. They can also review products and orders, filter orders by payment and fulfillment state, sort products and orders, share product and order links, inspect fulfillment details and open safe shipment tracking links. They can cancel pending orders, refund paid orders with a choice to restock, and mark orders fulfilled with tracking details. Payment status and Stripe onboarding are also available from native. Store buyer order history and digital downloads are not available in the mobile app. This applies to every account and does not change seller tools.
  • Supporters: review the selected Personal or team context's Supporters program, tiers and subscriber summary, review your own supporter relationships, share a published Supporters page from native actions. Paid Supporters posts are not available in the mobile app. Payments, cancellations and other Supporters management are available on the website.

Connection and sign-in problems

A temporary connection failure offers Retry without removing your saved sign-in. An expired session returns to sign-in. Changing your password or two-factor setup requires a new mobile sign-in; the session-security update also requires existing mobile users to sign in once again.

The app needs a connection to save changes or send messages. An unsent message stays in the composer for retry. Repeating the same send after a connection failure avoids creating a duplicate message. Note drafts use the device's protected store first and sync to Magpie when connected; a temporary sync failure does not remove the local recovery copy. Calendar event drafts remain device-only. There is no offline send queue.

Sign out from More to remove the device session and cached account data. If the server cannot be reached during sign-out, the device still clears its sign-in; server revocation may not have completed. If you need to invalidate that session, change your password on the website.

If a problem continues after retrying, Contact support.
