Bookmarks
Import bookmarks from your browser, export them, and share a collection as a page and a feed.
Bookmarks reads the bookmarks file that Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Pinboard export, and CSV files, including Raindrop.io exports. Every bookmark can be downloaded as HTML, CSV or JSON, and a collection can be shared as a page of links with an RSS feed.
Get started freeImport a bookmarks file
Bookmarks will import the file into the Personal or team you have selected. Importing into a team needs edit access in it.
- Browser bookmarks
- The HTML bookmarks file that Chrome, Firefox and Safari export, and Pinboard's export. Each folder becomes a collection, and nested folders are flattened to the innermost folder's name. Tags and the date each link was saved are read when the file has them.
- CSV files
- A CSV file needs a url column. The columns title, description, collection, tags, note and created_at are read if present. Raindrop.io exports work as they are: their folder, excerpt and created columns are read as the collection, description and date saved.
- Addresses already saved
- An address already saved in that Personal or team is skipped, and so is anything that is not a web address. The result says how many bookmarks were imported, already saved and skipped.
- Size of a file
- Up to 5,000 entries and 8 MB are read per file.
- Page details afterwards
- Importing does not visit the pages, so each bookmark keeps the title from the file. Check again on a bookmark fetches its page details, image and article text for Reader view.
Export every bookmark
Import and export downloads every bookmark in the selected Personal or team, archived ones included. Each file has the address, title, description, collection, tags, note, favorite, read and archived state, and the date saved.
- HTML
- The bookmarks file format browsers import, with collections as folders and tags on each link.
- CSV
- One row per bookmark and one column per detail. A value a spreadsheet would read as a formula is saved as text.
- JSON
- Each bookmark with its details, including the canonical address the page gives when Magpie has read one.
- Highlights
- Send to a new note copies a bookmark's link, note and highlights into a note in Notes.
Share a collection
Each collection is Private until you change it under Collections and tags. When it is Unlisted or Public, the same page shows its link to copy and opens the shared page.
- Private
- Only people with access to that Personal or team can see it.
- Unlisted
- Anyone with the link can see it, and search engines are asked not to list it.
- Public
- Anyone with the link can see it, and search engines may list it.
The shared page and its RSS feed
The shared page shows the collection's name and description, and the title, site and description of each bookmark in it, newest first. It does not show notes, tags, highlights or who saved each bookmark, and it leaves out archived bookmarks.
A shared collection also has an RSS feed of its newest bookmarks, at the page's address with /feed added and linked from the page. Anyone with the address can follow the collection in RSS Reader or any feed reader.
Setting the collection back to Private, or deleting it, will stop the link and the feed working: the address will show Not found.
