Saved page details and duplicate detection

Magpie checks a saved address for its title, description, icon and preview image. If a page needs a sign-in, you can keep its address and supply a title. Duplicate detection ignores common tracking parameters and offers the existing bookmark or another copy.

Collections, tags and status

Collections
A bookmark is in one collection at most. Deleting a collection returns its bookmarks to the Inbox.
Tags
A bookmark can have any number. Magpie suggests tags used on the same site and tags whose words appear in the title. Renaming a tag to an existing one merges the two.
Note
Your own note on each bookmark, searched with everything else.
Read, Favorite and Archived
New bookmarks are unread. Archived bookmarks are left out of every view except Archived.
Several at once
Select bookmarks to move them to a collection, add or remove a tag, mark them read or favorite, archive or delete them.

Find a bookmark

Search titles, addresses, sites, descriptions, notes, tags and collection names. Filter by collection, combinations of tags, site or date saved.

Show the list as a compact list, a list with previews, or cards with images. Keyboard shortcuts move through the list, open Reader view and mark bookmarks read; they match RSS Reader where they do the same thing.

Read the article in Reader view and highlight it.

When a saved page is an article, Magpie keeps its text, headings, lists and links. Images, scripts and page styling are not kept. Not every page has a Reader view, and pages that need a sign-in do not.

Select text to highlight it, and add a note to each highlight. At the end of an article, Mark read and open next opens the next unread bookmark.

Bring bookmarks in, take them out, share a collection

Import
An HTML bookmarks file from Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Pinboard, or a CSV file, including Raindrop.io exports. Folders become collections. Up to 5,000 entries and 8 MB per file; addresses already saved are skipped.
Export
Every bookmark, including archived ones, as HTML, CSV or JSON, with its collection, tags, note, state and date saved. Use HTML for a browser bookmark import.
Browser button
Drag Save to Magpie to your bookmarks bar. It saves the page you are on, with any text you selected, using your Magpie sign-in in that browser.
Shared collections
A collection is Private, Unlisted or Public. A shared collection shows each bookmark's title, site and description, not notes, tags or highlights, and has an RSS feed of its newest 100 links.

Bookmarks with RSS Reader and Notes

RSS Reader

Save an RSS Reader entry to Bookmarks and it keeps the entry's text for Reader view after it leaves your feed. From a bookmark, Follow adds the site's feed to your RSS Reader subscriptions.

Notes

Send to a new note opens a note with the bookmark's link, your note and your highlights.

Privacy and saved pages

Who can see my bookmarks?

Personal bookmarks are visible only to you. A bookmark saved in a team is visible to everyone in that team, including its note and highlights.

What happens when I delete a bookmark?

It moves to the Trash. Restore it within 30 days; after that it is removed.

Does Reader view load the original page?

Reader view uses the article text Magpie stored when checking the page. Open original visits the saved site in your browser.

Can I save a link to an internal or private-network page?

Yes. Magpie never contacts addresses on private networks, so the bookmark keeps the address and the title you give it.
