Save and organize Bookmarks
Save a link, file it in a collection, tag it, add a note, and find it again later.
Bookmarks are kept in the Personal or team you have selected. A bookmark saved in a team is visible to everyone in that team, including its note and highlights. Personal bookmarks are visible only to you.
Save a link
Choose Add bookmark at the top of Bookmarks, paste a web address and press Enter. Only the address is required; you can also give a title, a collection, tags and a note. Unless you choose a collection, the bookmark goes to the Inbox, which holds bookmarks that are not in a collection. A new bookmark is marked unread.
Magpie then checks the page for its title, description, icon and preview image. If the page cannot be reached, for example because it needs a sign-in, the bookmark keeps the address you saved and you can type a title yourself. On a bookmark's page, Page details shows when the page was last checked; choose Check again to check it now. A title or description you have edited is not replaced.
If you have already saved the page in the same Personal or team, Magpie shows when you saved it and offers View the saved bookmark or Save another copy. Tracking parameters such as utm_source and fbclid are ignored when comparing addresses. The address you saved is kept as you entered it.
Organize
- Collections. A bookmark is in one collection at most. Add and rename collections under Collections and tags. Deleting a collection does not delete its bookmarks; they return to the Inbox.
- Tags. A bookmark can have any number. Type a tag and press Enter or a comma; tags already in use are offered as you type, with how many bookmarks have each. Choose × on a tag to remove it. Tags are stored in lower case, with spaces replaced by hyphens. Click a tag under Collections and tags to rename it; renaming it to the name of another tag merges the two.
- Note. Your own note on the bookmark.
- Read, Favorite and Archived. Archiving keeps a bookmark but leaves it out of every view except Archived.
On a bookmark's page, click the title, description or note to change them, add or remove tags, and use the switches for Read, Favorite and Archived. Changes save immediately.
Suggested tags
When you add a bookmark, and on a bookmark's page, Magpie suggests tags: the tags on your other bookmarks from the same site, most used first, and existing tags whose words appear in the title. The bookmark you have just saved shows its suggestions on its row in the list. A suggestion is only added when you choose it.
Each row in the list has Open original, Reader view when there is one, and a More menu with Add to favorites, Mark read and Archive. The row stays in place after you use one, and the menu then offers the opposite, so a mistaken choice is undone from the same place.
Find a bookmark
The tabs are All, Inbox, Unread, Favorites, Archived and Trash. Search looks in titles, addresses, sites, descriptions, notes, tags and collection names. Choose a collection from the links under the search field, and narrow the list by site or when it was saved.
Tags are listed under the collections, each with how many bookmarks in the current list have it. Choose a tag to show only bookmarks with that tag; choose another to narrow the list to bookmarks with both. Choose a selected tag again, or Any tag, to remove it. The 24 most used tags are shown; the rest are under Collections and tags.
Display sets how the list looks and its order. Compact list shows a title and one line per bookmark, List with previews adds the note or description, and Cards with images shows each bookmark's preview image. Magpie remembers your choice.
Change several at once
Select bookmarks with their checkboxes, or use the checkbox above the list to select every bookmark on the page. Then choose Move to a collection, Add tag or Remove tag, mark them read, unread or favorite, Archive or Delete. In Add tag, type a new tag and press Enter, or choose one in use; typing narrows the list.
Reader view and highlights
When a saved page is an article, Magpie keeps its text. Choose Reader view on the bookmark or its row to read it without the rest of the page. Only the text, headings, lists and links are kept; images, scripts and page styling are not. Not every page has a Reader view, and pages that need a sign-in do not.
At the end of the article, Mark read and open next marks it read and opens the next unread bookmark, and the name of the next unread bookmark is shown below it.
In Reader view, select text and choose Highlight selection. Highlights are listed under the article and on the bookmark's page, where you can add a note to each one. Highlights and article text are never shown on a shared collection.
Bookmarks and RSS Reader
Choose Save bookmark on an entry in RSS Reader. The bookmark records which feed it came from and keeps the entry's text for Reader view, so it stays readable after the entry leaves your feed. Entries already saved in the Personal or team you have selected show Saved in Bookmarks, which opens the bookmark.
To follow a site you have bookmarked, open the bookmark and choose More, then Follow and the site's name. Magpie looks for the site's RSS or Atom feed and adds it to your RSS Reader subscriptions. RSS Reader subscriptions are yours, not your team's.
