Record temperatures
Add temperature points with their limits, record readings, and see what happens when a reading is out of range.
A temperature point is a place you check, such as a fridge, a freezer or hot holding. Temperature checks are turned on for food businesses at setup; a team admin can turn them on or off with Temperature checks in Daily Operations Settings. Turning them off hides the points, readings and the Temperatures page, and keeps the readings already taken.
Points and limits
On Temperatures, a manager chooses Add point, names it and chooses what it is: a fridge or cold room, freezer, hot holding, cooking, cooling, deliveries or other. On the point's page, set the lowest and highest target temperatures and the critical low and high limits, and write what to do when a reading is out of range. A point can also be linked to a piece of Asset Tracker equipment.
Points created by the starter routines have starting limits, marked as not confirmed. Check them against the rules that apply to your business, then choose These limits are right. Magpie does not decide which limits your business needs.
Record a reading
Type the temperature on Temperatures, on a point's page, or in a checklist step, and choose Record. Temperatures shows the latest reading today at each point. Readings are typed in the team's unit, °C or °F, chosen with Temperature unit in Settings; readings already taken keep the unit they were typed in. Each reading keeps the value as typed, its unit, the limits that applied and who recorded it.
A reading outside the target range creates a medium incident; one outside a critical limit creates a critical incident. The incident will list what to do and a follow-up reading to take. Record the follow-up reading on the incident's page.
A point that is no longer checked can be made not active on its page. It is then not offered for readings, and its readings are kept.
Correct a reading
A manager can correct a reading on the point's page with a reason. The corrected value is added with the time the reading was taken; the original stays in the list, marked as replaced, with the reason.
