Screen Recorder
Record a screen, a window or a browser tab with your microphone and your camera in the video.
Screen Recorder records in the browser. Choose a whole screen, one window or one tab, add your microphone, and place your camera over the screen or in a panel beside it. The video uploads while you record, and when you stop it has a link to send.
Get started freeScreen, window or tab, and sound
Choose screen opens the browser's own sharing chooser, where you pick a whole screen, one window or one browser tab. The preview shows what will be recorded before you choose Record.
- Your microphone
- Record my microphone is on for a new recording. The browser applies echo cancellation, noise suppression and automatic gain control; Turn off echo and noise processing records the microphone without them, for use with headphones.
- Sound from a tab or window
- Share a tab or a window with its audio in the browser's chooser, and its sound will be recorded together with your microphone.
- Landscape or portrait
- Video orientation makes a landscape or a portrait video. When the shared screen is a different shape, Screen position places it at the centre, left, right, top or bottom of the frame.
- Title
- Name the recording before you start, or rename it afterwards by clicking its title on the Recordings list.
Your camera in the video
Show my camera records your camera, mirrored, into the video itself, so it is part of the file people watch and download. A button over the preview turns the camera off and on again while you record.
- Floating bubble
- The camera in a corner, along the top or bottom edge, or in the middle of the frame. Camera size makes it smaller or larger, and you can drag it to any place in the preview.
- Camera shape
- Circle, rounded square, boomerang square, clover, heart, cloud, mushroom or cat, with or without a border.
- Split screen
- The camera gets its own panel at the top, bottom, left or right, taking half or one third of the frame, and the screen fills the rest.
- Fading out
- With the bubble, the camera can stay visible or fade out 5, 10 or 15 seconds after recording starts. After it fades, the rest of the recording shows the screen only.
Recording and saving
Record, Stop or Discard
The timer counts up while you record. Stop finishes the recording, and Discard throws it away.
Uploaded as you record
The browser sends the video to Magpie every few seconds while you record, so little is left to send when you stop. Keep the page open until it has finished.
Your plan's length
The recorder shows the longest recording your plan allows, and stops the recording when it reaches that length.
A link to send
The Recordings list opens with the new recording's share link ready to copy. A frame from the start of the video becomes its thumbnail until you choose another.
Options kept
Your recording options, camera layout and teleprompter settings are saved for your next recording.
Plans, video quality and storage
Your plan sets the longest recording, how many recordings you can make in a week and the video quality. On the free plan, a recording can be 3 minutes long, you can make 1 a week, and the video is recorded at a lower resolution; the week starts on Monday. Pro records up to 30 minutes at a higher resolution, as many as your storage holds, and adds Higher video quality, which records at a higher bit rate and says how much storage a full-length recording will use.
Recordings belong to the person who made them, so the limits come from your Personal plan in every team you work in. Each recording uses your file storage, one allowance shared with your images, podcast audio and Store downloads. A recording in Trash still uses storage until it is deleted forever.
Who sees your recordings
The Recordings list shows the recordings you made, with each one's length, size, date and view count. Only you can rename, edit or share a recording, or move it to Trash.
Anyone you send a recording's share link to can watch it in a browser without an account. A recording that a webinar uses is private instead: its link is off, and the webinar sets who can watch it.
Recordings that arrive from other areas
When you are a webinar's first host, its recording is added to your recordings in full. It uses your storage but does not count toward your recordings for the week.
A video file uploaded in the Supporters post editor is saved to Screen Recorder as well, and counts toward the same plan limits as a recording made in the browser.
