Screen Recorder

See how many people watched a screen recording, how far they got and what they clicked.

Each recording's Analytics page counts the visits to its share page, how many started the video and watched to the end, how far people watched, and which links they opened. When you email a recording to your contacts, it also shows how far each of them watched.

The totals

Analytics, in the recording editor's File menu, opens with totals for the share page. The Recordings list shows each recording's view count.

Views
Each opening of the share page is a view, so one person who opens it twice counts twice.
Started watching and Watched to the end
How many views played the video and how many reached its end, with the share of views that started it as a percentage.
Average watched
How much of the recording a view watched on average, as a time and as a percentage of its length.
Link clicks and Downloads
Presses of the share page's link buttons and its Download button.
Plays, full screen and last viewed
Plays in total, how many times the video was opened full screen, and when the page was last viewed.

Breakdowns

How far people watch
Of the views that started the video, how many reached a quarter, half and three quarters of the way through, and the end.
Views over the last 30 days
The number of views on each day.
Where views came from
The page a visitor was on before opening the share link, when the browser reports it.
Link clicks
Clicks and views for each link button, recorded with the text and address the link had when it was pressed.
Recent activity
The latest events one by one, with their time: views, plays, pauses, seeks, progress, link clicks and downloads, including the visits left out of the totals.

What is counted

Your own visits to the share page are counted separately, as visits by you. So are the requests that apps such as Slack, WhatsApp and iMessage make to build a link preview, so pasting a link into a message does not add a view.

Plays, progress and clicks are reported by the browser playing the video. A visitor whose browser blocks scripts is counted as a view and nothing else. Counting starts the first time the share page is opened.

What you learn about viewers

Apart from the people you invite by email, nothing on the Analytics page identifies a visitor to you. The figures are counts, and Where views came from shows only the address of the page a visitor came from.

Email a recording to your contacts

Invite people to watch, in the recording editor's File menu, emails the recording's link to contacts of the team. Emailing invitations needs a paid plan.

  1. Choose recipients

Tick the contacts to send it to, from those with an email address, and enter a Subject and an optional Note, which is quoted under the recording.

  2. Review invitation

Shows the invitation before it goes. Nothing is sent until you confirm, and Discard draft drops it.

  3. The email

Shows the recording's thumbnail with a play symbol and its running time. Replies go to your email address.

  4. By invitation

Analytics will list each person you emailed, with their name and email address, how far they watched and how many links they clicked.

See who watched.

Create a Magpie account, share a recording, then open Analytics from the recording editor's File menu.
