Read a script on a teleprompter while you record your screen.

Turn on Show a teleprompter in the recorder's options, and your script scrolls in a panel at the top of the screen, close to the camera. The script is a Magpie Document or text you type. The panel is part of the page, not the video, so it is not in a recording of a window or a tab.

The script

Script, in the recorder's options, chooses where the words come from.

A Magpie Document
Any Document you can edit, in Personal or one of your teams, including one shared with you. The teleprompter shows the Document's current content, so editing the Document changes the script.
Reload script
Fetches the Document again, to pick up an edit made by you or someone else while the recorder is open.
Text you type
Choose Type a script below and type or paste the words into Script text. The text is saved with your recorder options for the next recording.
Word count and speaking time
The options show how many words the script has and about how long it will take to say.

Pacing the script to the video's length

Target video length, entered in minutes and seconds such as 3:30, sets the starting scroll speed so the script fills that length. Once it is scrolling, you control the speed.

  1. Start scrolling when recording starts

    On for a new teleprompter: the text starts moving when you choose Record.

  2. Scroll

    Starts and stops the text. The space bar does the same.

  3. Speed

    A slider on the teleprompter that speeds the text up or slows it down while it scrolls.

  4. Back to top

    Returns to the first line for another take.

Where the teleprompter appears

The teleprompter is held at the top of the screen, above the recorder, so your eyes stay near a camera at the top of the display.

Text size, width and height
Set the text size and width in the options. Drag either side of the teleprompter to widen it, and the handle along its bottom edge to change its height.
Pop out
Where the browser supports it, opens the teleprompter in a window of its own, which you can drag beside the camera.
Mirror the text
Flips the text for reading off a teleprompter glass in front of the lens.
Settings kept
The script, target length, text size, width, height and speed are saved for your next recording.

Keeping the script out of the video

The recorder records only what you share in the browser's chooser. Share a window or a browser tab, and the teleprompter is not in the recording. Share your entire screen, and the teleprompter will be recorded with everything else on it.

One Document as the script and the transcript

Write the script in Documents, where people on your team can edit it with you and comment on it before you record.

After recording, choose the same Document as the Transcript in the recording's share page settings. The share page will show it beside the video on larger screens and below it on smaller ones, with its web links clickable, without publishing the Document on its own. The share page shows the Document's current content too, so a correction made in the Document will appear on the share page and in the teleprompter.
