Record and share your screen
Capture a screen with optional microphone and camera, then share or download the recording.
Open Screen Recorder and choose Record. Enter a title, then choose the video orientation and how a shared screen should be positioned when its shape differs from the output.
Turn on microphone audio to narrate. Turn on the camera to place your mirrored video in the selected corner and shape. In Floating bubble mode, use Camera size to make the camera smaller or larger, then drag it in the preview if needed. To capture sound from a browser tab or window, enable audio in the browser's screen-sharing chooser; the microphone option is separate.
In Recording options, turn on Turn off echo and noise processing to request microphone capture without echo cancellation, noise suppression, or automatic gain control. Use headphones when this option is on. The browser or microphone may still apply its own processing. This setting affects microphone audio, not sound captured from the shared tab or window.
Turn on Show a teleprompter to read a script while you record. Choose a Magpie Document as the script, or type one into Script text. The teleprompter shows the Document's current content, so editing the Document changes the script; nothing is copied.
Target video length counts the script's words and sets an initial scroll speed to fit the selected number of minutes. The word count includes an estimated speaking time at 150 words per minute; the scroll estimate also accounts for the script's size and width. Adjust the speed slider while you read if you need to pause or change pace. The target length is saved with your recorder options.
The teleprompter sits at the top of the screen, above the recorder, so your eyes stay near the camera. Set the text size and width in the options, and drag the handle along its bottom edge to change its height. On the teleprompter itself, Scroll starts and stops the text and the speed slider sets how fast it moves; the space bar does the same as Scroll. Back to top returns to the first line. Turn on Mirror the text when you are reading off a teleprompter glass in front of the lens.
The teleprompter is part of the page, not part of the video, so it is not recorded - unless you choose your entire screen as the thing being shared, in which case everything on that screen is captured. Share a window or a tab to keep it out of the recording.
Start recording, select a screen, window, or tab, and stop when finished. Keep the page open while the browser assembles and uploads the file. Plan determines the maximum duration, weekly recording allowance, and output quality.
The Recordings page provides the share link. You can rename, download, or delete a recording. Deletion stops the share link and is permanent. Anyone with a live share link can open the recording, so do not use it for material that requires named-recipient access.
The native mobile app can list ready recordings owned by your account, show their metadata, rename a recording, or delete it after confirmation. Choose Upload to save a video from the device, such as the phone's own screen recording, as a Screen recording. Choose it from Photos or Files; MP4 and WebM videos are accepted. It counts toward your weekly recordings and storage like a browser recording, and a video longer than your plan's recording length is not saved. Open a recording in the app to watch it with seeking and full screen, and choose Share recording link under the video to send its share page. The actions menu has View analytics for aggregate views, watch progress, link clicks, downloads and recent-day activity and traffic-source hostnames, and Share recording file to share the final MP4. The native file action includes saved cuts and image overlays. Visitor identity, raw events and full referrer details remain on the website's full report. Recording in the browser and editing remain on the website. Use Share page settings to change the custom public address, show the Download button, choose an editable transcript Document or published Form, or manage up to 12 important links.
The share page shows the recording, its title, who recorded it, the date and the length. Share and Edit appear only for you; anyone you send the link to sees the recording and, when enabled, Download. A still frame taken from the recording is used as the page's opening image and as the thumbnail when the link is pasted into a chat app or posted, so the link previews as a picture of the recording.
Use View share page in the recording editor to open the public share page. Use Share page settings to change the share page. Enter a custom address to replace the generated string at the end of the share link with words that are easier to read and remember. Leave it blank to keep the generated address. The old generated address continues to work. A custom address is still an unlisted public link, so anyone who knows or guesses it can open the recording.
Turn off Show Download button to remove Magpie's Download button. This does not change the video player's browser controls or the recording file.
Select an editable Magpie Document to use as the transcript. The share page shows the Document's current content, including clickable web links, without publishing the Document on its own. Editing the Document updates the transcript. On larger screens, the video stays in view while the page scrolls through the transcript beside it. On smaller screens, the transcript appears after the video.
Add up to 12 important links in the same screen. Each link appears as a large button below the video and opens separately so the recording remains available. Select Highlight on a link to show it in the accent colour, for the one you most want people to open. The native share settings screen supports the same link list and validation. It also lists the Documents you can edit and published Forms in the selected workspace for the share page.
Once a recording is ready, Edit opens the image editor. Pause on the moment you want an image to appear, choose Add image to pick one from your image library, then drag and resize it on the video. The panel beside the video sets when it appears and how long it stays on screen - five seconds by default, adjustable from a few frames to the whole recording - and the timeline underneath does the same by dragging a block or either of its ends. You can add as many images as you like, including several at once, reordering which sits on top with the layer buttons. Click Save to apply image changes to the share link; the original recording file is never changed. A downloaded MP4 includes the images; changing one after downloading regenerates the file the next time it is downloaded.
The editor also shows the video as segments. Drag a segment edge to trim the start or end. Pause inside a kept segment and choose Split at playhead, then select a segment and choose Remove segment to cut it out. These changes stay in the editor until you choose Save. The share page skips removed parts immediately, and the downloaded MP4 is rendered with the cuts and images together. The original recording file is never changed.
Workspace admins can make the same bounded Screen Recorder changes through the Workspace assistant. The assistant uses recording and overlay UUIDs from current Magpie results, keeps the original file unchanged for edits, and requires explicit confirmation before changing sharing, saving edit or overlay changes, or deleting a recording or overlay. It returns server-issued links and safe metadata only; video bytes, private paths, and share tokens are not exposed.
Analytics
Analytics in the recording editor shows what happens on the share page: views, how many visits started the video, how many watched to the end, the average watched time, link clicks, and downloads. It also shows how far through visits get, views per day for the last 30 days, the page each visit arrived from when the browser sends one, and a list of the most recent activity. The recordings list shows the view count beside each recording.
Your own visits are counted separately, as are the requests apps such as Slack and iMessage make to build a link preview, so pasting a link somewhere does not report a view nobody made. Watch and click figures come from the browser playing the video, so a visitor who blocks scripts is counted as a view and nothing else. Nothing identifies a visitor to you, and counting starts when a share page is first opened - views from before this existed were not recorded.
If screen capture is unavailable, check browser and operating-system recording permission. If a completed upload never appears, Contact support.
