Moving a note, document or other work to Trash takes it out of its area at once. It stays in Trash for 30 days, where it can be restored as it was, and is then deleted forever.

Move something to Trash

Choose Move to Trash, the last item in:

  • the File menu of a Document, Spreadsheet, Presentation, Design, Idea Board, editor website in Websites, Form, or recording in Screen Recorder's editor;
  • the More menu of an open note, a note on Dashboard, an issue, a bookmark or a files website.

It moves straight away, without a question. A message names it and offers Undo, which puts it back where it was. A selection of bookmarks moves the same way with Move to Trash in the selection bar.

Who can move something to Trash:

  • In a team, the members who can edit in its area. A note can be moved by the person who wrote it or by a team admin.
  • A recording, only by the person who made it.
  • Not people outside the team who were given access to one document, presentation or form.

While it is in Trash

  • It is not in its area's list, search, ⌘K, Recent work, the assistant or the Magpie app.
  • Its addresses answer as if it did not exist: a published website on its Magpie address and custom domain, a form's link and payment pages, a document's or presentation's public link, a Design's prototype links, and a recording's share page and video.
  • People it was shared with cannot open it until it is restored.
  • Nothing else can take its address: a website's address and custom domain, or a recording's custom share address. Choosing one says which website or recording in Trash holds it.
  • A recording in Trash still uses its owner's storage until it is deleted forever. Notes, Idea Boards and this week's recordings in Trash do not count toward the number your plan allows.

Opening the address of something in Trash shows that it is in Trash, who moved it, and the day it will be deleted forever, with a Restore button for people who can restore it.

Restore

Open Trash at the end of the sidebar, at the end of the menu on a phone, or by typing Trash in ⌘K. It lists what Personal, or the team you are in, moved to Trash, newest first, with who moved each one and until when it is kept. Use the tabs to show one area, and the search to find a title.

Choose Restore on a row, or select several and choose Restore in the selection bar. Each comes back as it was, with its links, sharing and collaborators: a published website is published again, and a form takes responses again. The message says where it went.

Anyone who can move something to Trash can restore it. Restoring is refused when it would go over your plan's number of notes, Idea Boards or recordings this week; the message says how to make room.

Delete forever

Choose Delete forever in a row's More menu, or select several and choose Delete forever in the selection bar. Magpie asks first, as it cannot be undone. In a team, an admin can delete anything in Trash forever, and other members what they made. In Personal, you can delete everything in it.

Everything in Trash is deleted forever 30 days after it was moved there, with its files.

What Trash does not hold

  • Mail, Password Vault and Secure Files keep their own Trash.
  • Parts of something, such as a form response, a slide, a sheet or a card on an Idea Board, are deleted where they are.
  • Work deleted before Trash existed is not in it.

In the Magpie app

Choose More, then Trash. It lists the selected team's Trash with the same people's rights. Tap Restore on a row, or swipe it to Delete forever. Move to Trash is in the menu of a note, document, presentation, Design, Idea Board, form, recording or issue.

With the API

GET /api/v1/trash lists the selected team's Trash, POST /api/v1/trash/ENTRY_UUID/restore restores an entry, and DELETE /api/v1/trash/ENTRY_UUID deletes it forever. See API keys and REST API.
