Affiliate program
Share links to Magpie, see the accounts they bring in, and earn a share of what those accounts pay for Pro or the Team plan.
Any Magpie account can be an affiliate, including an account on the Free plan.
Open Your affiliate links from the account menu. The first time you open
it, Magpie gives you a link made from your handle, such as
magpie.diy/a/yourname, ready to share. Nobody has a link until they open the
page.
The public Affiliate program page, linked from the footer of Magpie's public pages, states the rules for everyone.
Links
Select Add link and type a name. A link is magpie.diy/a/ followed by the
name: 3 to 40 lowercase
letters, numbers and hyphens, with at least one letter. Names that read as
Magpie's own, such as support or ones starting magpie-, are reserved. A
name belongs to the affiliate who adds it.
You can have up to 20 links in your list. Each row shows its visits, the accounts it credited, and how many of those accounts have paid, so a separate link for each video, episode or newsletter shows which one brought people in.
Someone who opens a link goes to the Magpie homepage. Add a page after the name
to send them somewhere else: magpie.diy/a/yourname/pricing opens the Pricing
page.
- Opening the same link again in the same browser does not add a visit, unless another affiliate's link was opened in between or 90 days have passed. A browser that does not keep cookies adds a visit each time.
- Visits are not counted from someone signed in to Magpie, from a browser where you have opened Your affiliate links, or from link previews and search engine crawlers that name themselves. Opening your own link does not change its count.
- Hide takes a link off your list. A hidden link still works and still credits accounts to you, and it does not count toward the links in your list. Hidden links, under your list, opens the links you have hidden; Show puts one back. A list that is full has no place for it until you hide another.
- Delete link appears only on a link that has never been used, such as one with a typo in its name. Deleting it frees the name. A link that has visits or accounts can be hidden instead.
Which accounts are credited to you
An account is credited to you when it is created on the Magpie website within
90 days of opening one of your links. If the same
person opened more than one affiliate's link, the most recent link is credited.
Magpie remembers the visit with a cookie named magpie_affiliate; see the
Cookie Policy. A visit that was not counted does not replace a
visit already remembered.
These are not credited:
- an account that existed before the visit;
- an account created in a browser where you have opened Your affiliate links,
which Magpie marks with a cookie named
magpie_affiliate_owner; - an account created in the Magpie mobile app.
What you earn
You earn 40% of each payment a credited account makes for Pro or the Team plan on the website, for 24 months from its first payment. An account on the Free plan earns from its first payment if it moves to Pro or the Team plan. Pro bought in the App Store or Google Play does not earn.
The rate and length are fixed for each account when it is credited, so a later change to the program applies only to accounts credited afterwards.
Each commission is held for 30 days after its payment, then owed to you. When Magpie refunds a payment, or a payment is charged back, a website admin reverses its commission. Commissions on accounts that break the program's rules can be reversed too. Payments on the page lists each payment that earned you a commission, with its amount, the link the account came from, and whether it is held, owed or reversed. It does not name the person who paid.
Payouts
Commissions owed to you are paid out through common payment platforms. Earnings on the page shows what is owed to you and what is still held.
If Magpie suspends your affiliate account, your links stop crediting new accounts, and payments made while it is suspended do not earn, even after it is reinstated. The page says so while it is suspended.
To ask about an account that was not credited, or about a suspension, see Contact support.
