Show a message across Magpie with a site ribbon
Add a site ribbon in Admin to show a message in a strip under the top bar of Magpie's pages and the Magpie app.
A site ribbon is a short message in a strip under the top bar of every member page, of Magpie's own public pages and of every screen in the Magpie app. It is never shown on members' websites, shops or other pages they publish. Open Admin and choose Site ribbons.
Add a ribbon
Choose Add ribbon, write the message (up to 300 characters) and choose Add ribbon. The ribbon's page opens with the ribbon switched off, so nobody sees it yet.
Show it
On the ribbon's page:
- Show this ribbon switches it on and off. The line under the message says where it is showing and until when.
- Shows for is how long the ribbon shows before it switches off by itself, or Until switched off. The time starts when the ribbon is switched on; while it shows, the line under Shows for gives the time it will switch off, and choosing another length starts the time again. Editing the message does not change it.
- Where it shows has a switch each for the website, the iPhone and iPad app and the Android app.
- Colour shows the ribbon as members see it. Choose Background to change its colour; the text is black or white, whichever can be read on it.
Click the message at the top of the page to change it.
Closing a ribbon
Anyone can close a ribbon with the cross at its end. It stays closed for that account on every page and in the app; someone signed out has it closed in that browser. When the message changes, the ribbon shows again to everyone who closed it. The app reads ribbons when it opens and each time it comes back to the front.
Delete a ribbon
On the ribbon's page, choose More, then Delete ribbon. It stops showing at once.
