Comic and webcomic artists

Paying supporters read each new page first, and your posts go out on update day. Readers buy signed books, prints and PDFs from your own shop.

A cartoonist working alone uses Magpie in Personal. A studio with a writer and a colourist can work in one Magpie team.

Lantern Street’s supporter posts: next week’s page as a draft, this week’s page and last week’s for paying supporters, a poll for all supporters, the chapter 8 script for two tiers and the thumbnails for everyone.

This combination of five Magpie areas fits a comic artist.

Supporters
Supporters lets readers support you monthly, and read new pages first.
Social Media
Social Media schedules each page's posts for update day.
Websites
Websites builds your comic's website, and you change it yourself.
Store
Store sells your printed volumes, prints and PDFs from a shop of your own.
Link-In-Bio List
Link-In-Bio List puts the newest page, your shop and your table on one page.

Paying supporters can read each new page before everyone else.

Supporters gives you a public page with a free tier and monthly paid tiers. Supporters pay by card, and the money goes to your own Stripe account.

A post can show a new page to paying supporters, or to chosen tiers. Others see its title and excerpt. A poll lets readers choose the next short story.

Each new page gets its posts, scheduled for update day.

Social Media posts to Bluesky, Mastodon and LinkedIn at the time you set. For Instagram and X, Magpie reminds you and opens the post filled in.

Each account gets the page in its own shape, around the panel you choose. A campaign holds the posts for a reprint or a convention.

Lantern Street Comics’ Social Media overview: today’s page ready to post on Instagram, then the convention table, a process post and the volume one reprint coming up on Bluesky, Mastodon, Instagram and X.

Your comic has its own website, and you change it yourself.

Websites is Magpie's site editor. Your site is built from sections, such as the newest panels or the cast. You change the words by clicking them.

A comic site you already have can be uploaded as its files. Either one can be at your own domain.

Lantern Street’s website open in the Websites editor in Visual mode: the Home page with three panels from the latest page under the site’s header, the sections to add, and the Page inspector with the site’s colours.

Readers buy signed books, prints and PDFs from your own shop.

Store is your online shop. A printed volume and a print each keep their own stock. A PDF sells as a download, and a bundle sells a book and a print together.

A signed copy can ask who to sign it to. Buyers pay by card into your own Stripe account, with no Magpie fee.

Lantern Street Shop’s Store products: signed copies of volume one, its PDF as a download, a night market print running low and a bundle of the book and the print, each with its picture, stock and price.

One link in your profile leads to the newest page, the shop and your table.

Link-In-Bio List is a page of links, with your comic's name and a line about it. Instagram, Bluesky and X show as icons.

Analytics shows the page's views and the clicks on each link. It can use your own domain.

Three more areas cover pages in progress, web-sized images and a reader newsletter.

Kanban Boards
Kanban Boards tracks each page from script to thumbnails, inks and colours.
Image Converter
Image Converter resizes each page and converts it to WebP for the web.
Newsletter
Newsletter tells your readers about a new chapter or a reprint.

A page goes from the script to the shelf.

  1. The script

Each page is a card on your board, from thumbnails to colours.

  2. Supporters first

The finished page goes in a post for paying supporters.

  3. Update day

A week later, it goes on your site, and your scheduled posts go out.

  4. The chapter

Your list hears when a chapter ends and the next one starts.

  5. The book

When a volume is printed, signed copies sell from your shop.

Setting up takes four steps.

  1. Open your supporters page

You set your free and monthly tiers. Help: Set up Supporters.

  2. Connect your accounts

You connect Bluesky, Mastodon and LinkedIn. Help: Connect social accounts.

  3. Open your shop

You add your books, prints and PDFs, and publish the shop. Help: Set up and publish a Store.

  4. Connect Stripe

You connect your Stripe account, so readers can pay by card. Help: Connect Stripe to receive money.

Plans

A cartoonist working alone fits Pro, for your own work in Personal. A studio of several people fits the Team plan.

Magpie adds no fee to your shop's sales. Magpie's fee on supporters' payments is 3%. Stripe's processing fee is taken from each card payment. Prices are on the Pricing page.

Other artists and writers have pages of their own.

Questions comic artists ask

Can supporters see new pages before everyone else?

Yes. A post can show the new page to paying supporters, or to chosen tiers. Others see its title and excerpt. You put the page on your site when you choose.

Can I post a page to all my social accounts at once?

Yes. One post goes to Bluesky, Mastodon and LinkedIn at its time. For Instagram and X, Magpie reminds you and opens the post filled in. Each account gets the picture in its own shape.

Can I sell signed copies of my book?

Yes. A book is a product with its own stock. A text field can ask the buyer who to sign it to. You ship the order, or the buyer collects it.

Can I sell a digital edition?

Yes. A download product holds a PDF, or a ZIP of the pages, each file up to 500 MB. Buyers download it from their order page or their confirmation email.

Can I sell a book and a print together?

Yes. A bundle has its own price and picture. When it sells, the book and the print each come out of stock.

Can readers pre-order the next volume?

Yes. A printed volume keeps selling when its stock reaches zero. It shows the date it is expected to ship. Buyers pay when they order, and pre-orders have their own list.

Can I build a website for my comic?

Yes. The editor builds pages from sections, such as a picture of the newest panels. You change the words by clicking them. The site can be at your own domain.

Can I make my pages smaller for the web?

Yes. Image Converter resizes pages and converts them to WebP. It can crop to a set shape and remove a file's metadata.

Can I track the pages I am working on?

Yes. A Kanban board can have a column for each stage, such as thumbnails, inks and colours. Each page is a card, with its due date and pictures.

Can readers sign up for news of the next chapter?

Yes. Newsletter gives you a sign-up page with double opt-in, and checkout can ask buyers to join. You write each issue and schedule it.

What does Magpie take from my sales?

Magpie adds no fee to your shop's sales. Supporters' payments carry Magpie's 3% fee. Stripe's processing fee is taken from each card payment.
