Sell digital products, files and licence keys
Deliver several files per digital product or per edition, limit downloads, send new versions and give each buyer a licence key.
A digital product is not shipped. After paying, the customer downloads its files from their order page or from the links in their confirmation email.
Files
Files on a digital product's page lists what customers get. Choose Add file and pick a file from your file library, or upload one. A product can have up to 50 files. Store accepts PDF, EPUB, ZIP, MP3, M4A, WAV, MP4, MOV, JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP, TIFF, TTF, OTF, WOFF and WOFF2 files up to 500 MB each. A file is accepted only when its contents match its type; a renamed file is refused.
A file goes with every option of the product unless you choose one option beside it. To sell editions, add an option such as Format with the values PDF and EPUB under Options, then choose PDF beside the PDF file and EPUB beside the EPUB file. A file for every option, such as a bonus chapter, goes with each edition.
A live product needs a file for every option that is for sale, and the product cannot be made live until it has one. Remove stops delivering a file, including to customers who already bought it. The file stays in your file library.
New versions
Replace… beside a file puts a new file in its place. Customers who bought the product get the new file from their order, and their downloads of that file are counted from 0 again. Tick Email customers who can still download it to send each of them a link to their order. The emails are sent in the next few minutes; the file's row then says how many were sent. Customers whose download period has ended or whose order was refunded are not emailed.
Download period and downloads per file
Downloads on the product's page has two limits:
- Download period: the number of days after purchase that customers can download the files. Leave it empty for no time limit.
- Downloads per file: how many times a customer can download each file. Leave it empty for no limit.
Each order keeps the limits the product had when it was paid, so changing them affects later orders only. When a customer reaches a limit, the download page says so and tells them to contact you.
On the order's page, Downloads shows how many times each file was downloaded and when the period ends. Reset downloads sets every file's count back to 0, and gives a file with a download period a new period from today. It needs permission to ship and edit orders. A refunded order's files cannot be downloaded.
Licence keys
Licence keys on the product's page opens its keys. Choose Add keys and paste keys, one on each line, or choose a text or CSV file with one key on each line; up to 5,000 at a time. A key already on the option is skipped. For a product with options, choose the option the keys are for.
Each unit sold gets one unused key. The key is shown on the customer's order page, in their confirmation email and in the Downloads section of the order in Store. An option's stock is its number of unused keys, so the option is sold out when they run out, and keys held by checkouts in progress are not given to anyone else. A key given to a customer stays theirs, even if the order is refunded. You can remove a key that has not been given out.
Keys are stored encrypted.
The customer's downloads
A signed-in customer finds every file and key they bought under Your orders › Your downloads, grouped by Store. Orders placed without signing in appear there after the customer chooses Add to your orders on the order page.
PDFs are delivered as you uploaded them; Store does not add the customer's name or email to them.
If a customer paid but has no download or no key on their order, Contact support.
