Invite clients to a portal
Give a person access to a Client Portal by email, and how they sign in with an email link, a code or a Magpie account.
On a portal's page, choose Invite client beside the portal's name. Choose a Contact, or enter a name and email for someone not in Contacts. A Contact's name and main email address are used unless you type others. Choose Invite client.
A Contact you invite is linked to the portal's client in Contacts, unless the Contact is already linked to another client; that Contact cannot be invited to this portal.
Your own email address must be confirmed before you can invite a client or send an invitation. If it is not, use the link in the email Magpie sent you. After many invitations in an hour, the page says how long to wait before sending another.
The person gets an invitation email with an Open portal button, which signs them in once, within 7 days. They also get a free Magpie account at that address, unless the address has one already (Magpie accounts for clients). While client sign-in is off, no invitation email is sent and no account is made. After that, they get an email each time you share something with them, while Email clients is on in the portal's details.
If the email could not be sent, the person is still added. Copy the portal's address from the top of its page and send it to them yourself.
Once someone is invited, the Clients band lists them.
An invitation that was not used
Beside a client who has not signed in yet, Resend invitation sends a new invitation email with a new button. A client added while client sign-in was off, or whose invitation could not be sent, has Send invitation instead. Another can be sent 10 minutes later, so an email that is slow to arrive is not followed by several more. Beside a client whose access was revoked, Invite again gives them access again and sends an invitation.
Signing in again
A client stays signed in until they sign out, you revoke their access, or 365 days pass without a visit.
To sign in again, or on another device, a client opens the portal's address, enters the email address they were invited with, and chooses Send sign-in email. They get an email with a sign-in link and a six-digit code. The link signs in the device the email is read on, and the code can be entered on the device that asked for it. Each works once, within 15 minutes. Send a new code sends another email, and use a different email asks for the address again. After too many sign-in emails, the page says how long to wait before asking again.
A link that was already used or has expired opens the sign-in page with the invited address filled in, where Send sign-in email sends a new link and code.
Magpie accounts for clients
Each client you invite while client sign-in is on gets a free Magpie account at the address you invited, or keeps the Magpie account they already have at that address. A client who has no account yet, such as one added while client sign-in was off, gets one once client sign-in is on; no email is sent about it. An account made for a client has no password and starts with product news off (Product news emails). The portal is listed on the account's Dashboard, and while the client is signed in to the account, the portal's sign-in page offers Continue as with their name. An account that was already at the address, but whose address was never confirmed, lists the portal and offers Continue as only once its address is confirmed; until then the client signs in with the invited address as above.
A client can use a Magpie account at another address instead: on the portal's sign-in page they choose sign in to use it, or sign up to make one, and then sign in once with the invited address, which connects that account. Coaching makes and connects its clients' accounts in the same way (Coach clients).
The account only signs the client in: it does not join your team and cannot see anything else of yours.
Each person in a portal sees everything it shows. To give someone a different view, make them a portal of their own.
