Create Components, Instances, and Variants
Turn interface parts into reusable Components with controlled Instance overrides.
Select a Frame or suitable Layer and choose Create Component in the Layer section of the Inspector, from the right-click menu, or with Alt+Cmd/Ctrl+K. The selected content becomes the main Component and receives a stable identity independent of its name. Open Assets and choose Insert beside the Component to create an Instance.
An Instance keeps a materialized copy of the source Layers. Choose Update in the Inspector after changing the main Component.
To make a value available on every Instance, select its Layer inside the main Component. Under Component properties, expose its Text, visibility, fill, or opacity. The property name is editable. Select an Instance to change those values in its Inspector. A value that has not been changed on an Instance uses the current value from the main Component.
Text, visibility, fill, opacity, font, and Text size changes made directly on a Layer inside an Instance are also retained when the Instance is updated. This includes on-canvas Text editing. Overrides stay with the same source Layer even when the main Component adds, removes, or reorders other Layers.
Reset overrides updates the Instance, clears its property values and direct overrides, and uses the current values from the main Component. Detach keeps the current visible content as independent Layers and removes the source relationship from the complete Layer tree.
Choose Add variant beside a Component in Assets to capture its current root appearance as a Variant. Select an Instance and use Variant in the Inspector to choose the default appearance or a saved Variant. Component properties and direct overrides are applied after the Variant, so changing a Variant does not discard them.
If a source is deleted or no longer available, an existing Instance keeps its last materialized Layers. It does not disappear. Its Inspector reports that the source is unavailable, and it can still be detached.
If a Component update removes its source Layer, the related override no longer has a target. Other overrides remain in place. If an intended override is lost, Contact support.
