Open this in Magpie

If your team sells with Store and has an editor website, the website can show the Store. Its Shop page lists your products, and each product's page, the Cart and checkout come with it, at the website's address and in its look. You keep adding and changing products, stock and orders in Store, and the pages around them in the website's editor. A Store is shown in one website at a time, and a website has one Shop page.

The shop needs the website at an address of its own: a domain you connect to it (see Show your website at your own domain) or Magpie's website address for it. Adding or removing the shop needs edit access to websites and Manage Store settings; team admins have both.

Add the shop

In the website's editor, choose Pages. Under the pages, the Shop row offers Add shop. The Shop page is added as a draft at /shop/, last in the navigation, and opens in the editor with your products in it. Visitors see it once you publish the website.

When the shop cannot be added, the row says why and, where there is one, how to fix it: your team has no Store yet, the Store is already in another website, the website has no address of its own, or a page uses an address the shop needs (such as /cart/), which you change in that page's row.

You can also start from Store: in Store settings, the Website row says where your Store is shown. Show in a website… lets you choose one of your editor websites, or A new website, which is named after your Store and has the Shop as its home page, in your Store's colours. Nothing changes until you press the button, and the website's editor then opens on the Shop page.

The Shop page

The Shop page is a page like the others: rename it, change its address, choose whether the navigation lists it and move it up or down in Pages. Its Products section lists your Store's published products, with search, sorting and your collections. Add your own sections above and below it, such as a line about when to order.

Select the Products section to see what it is. It can be moved up or down, but not deleted, copied or restyled; Open Store products opens Store, where products are added and changed. If a draft is saved without it, from Code mode or an import, it is put back at the end of the page and the editor says so.

When visitors would see something different from the editor, the section and the page's row in Pages say so: for example while your Store is not published, or until payments are set up.

Choose the home page

Any page can be the home page, the Shop included: in Pages, choose it under Home page. See Build and publish a website.

What visitors see

On the website, the Shop page, each product's and collection's page, the Cart and your Store pages (such as your terms) are shown in the website's own header, footer and colours, with a Cart link in the header showing how many things are in the Cart. Checkout and the order confirmation are a plain page in the website's colours and font, with the website's name and Back to cart, so nothing distracts from paying.

Order pages, downloads, returns, reviews, wishlists and wholesale prices stay at your Store's Magpie address, where buyers sign in; the website links to them. Order emails link there too.

Your Store's visit counts include the shop's pages on the website. The website has no Magpie sign-in, so your own visits there are counted. A sale started from another page of the website is recorded as coming from the website, or from the campaign tags of the address the visitor arrived at.

Your Store's own pages and address

While the website is published and shows the Shop page, your Store's own address, and its own domain if it has one, send visitors to the same page on the website. Carts started there before still check out there. New buy links, QR codes, product feeds and search-engine tags name the website.

If the website is taken offline, moved to Trash or loses its address, or the shop is removed, your Store's own pages are shown again at once, in the Store's own design.

While a website shows your Store, Store settings shows the Design band as Uses the look of your website. Your Store's own design, logo, fonts, announcement and menu are kept for its own pages. Your team's Language for customers still applies on the website.

Scripts and the shop's pages

Scripts in the website's layout or pages do not run on the shop's pages, so nothing on the website can read what buyers type or start a checkout. Code mode says so on the Shop page and in Layout. Analytics or chat scripts you add run on the website's other pages.

Remove the shop

In Pages, the Shop page's delete button asks first, naming what visitors will see, then removes the shop at once. Your Store's own pages answer again. Add shop later brings the Shop page back with its sections. While the Shop page is the home page, choose another home page first.

If a page of the shop on your website differs from the same page at your Store's own address, or the Store's own address does not send visitors to the website while it is published, Contact support.
