Store customers, segments and data requests
See each buyer's orders and spending, tag them, save segments, add them to Contacts, and export or erase a customer's data.
Store › Customers lists everyone who has paid for an order, one row per email address. Orders paid with the same email address, in any combination of capital letters, belong to one customer. A customer is added when their first order is paid, or when you approve their request for wholesale prices.
A customer's page
Open a customer to see their orders, the number of orders, what they have spent after refunds, and their first and last order. Click the name, phone, tags or notes to change them; they are seen only by your team.
Add to Contacts creates a contact in Contacts with the customer's name, email and phone, and links it to the customer. When the customer is linked, the button is Open contact. A customer is never linked to a contact automatically.
Marketing email shows whether the customer agreed to receive marketing email, with the date and where they agreed. Checkout asks while your Store adds buyers to a Newsletter or sends checkout reminders; see Terms, Newsletter sign-up and reminders at checkout. A buyer who leaves the box unticked is shown as declined only if they had not agreed before.
The Wholesale band holds a wholesale customer's price list, payment terms, tax exemption and certificate; see Wholesale customers, price lists and pay by invoice.
Gift cards and store credit
The Gift cards band lists the customer's gift cards and store credit: cards they bought, cards sent to their email address, store credit from a refund of their order, and cards used on their orders. Each card shows its balance, its expiry date if it has one, and its three most recent changes, such as a use on an order. The total above the list is what they can still spend on active cards that have not expired, and how much of it is store credit. A card links to its own page when you can manage discounts and gift cards; see Store gift cards and store credit.
A card is listed because of an email address or an order. To pay with it, the customer still needs its code.
Seeing a customer's page does not give anyone access to their orders. Buyers open their orders with their private order link or their Magpie account.
Saved addresses
When a buyer is signed in to Magpie, the shipping address of each paid order is saved for them in your Store. At their next checkout they can choose a saved address, and Stripe's payment page is filled in with it. The customer's page lists their saved addresses.
Segments
Select Filter customers to show customers who spent more than an amount, placed at least a number of orders, bought a product, have had no order for a number of days, have a tag, or gave a marketing consent answer. Every filter you fill in must match. Name the filters and select Save as segment to keep them; a segment appears above the list and shows the customers who match when it is opened.
A discount can be limited to a segment under Customers on the discount's page. Checkout checks the buyer's email address against the segment.
Export CSV downloads the customers shown, or the customers in the open segment, with their email, name, phone, orders, spending, dates, tags and marketing consent.
Export or erase a customer's data
In the customer's More menu:
- Export personal data downloads a file with everything the Store holds about the customer: their details, saved addresses, orders and gift cards (each card's last 4 characters and balance, never its code).
- Erase personal data replaces the customer's name, email, phone, tax IDs and addresses on each of their orders, removes addresses from those orders' history and the notes they wrote on return requests, and deletes their saved addresses, notes and tags, their wholesale terms and tax exemption certificate, and the details of their wholesale requests. Order amounts, items, discounts and tax are kept, so your orders and Accounting still add up. Erasing cannot be undone.
Erasing in Magpie does not change the customer's records in your Stripe account. Remove them in your Stripe Dashboard too when the request covers them.
If a customer's totals do not match their orders, note the customer's email address and Contact support.
