Sign a document you were sent
Open the link in the email, complete your fields, and finish or decline.
A document sent with Magpie E-Signatures arrives as an email with a Review and sign button. You do not need a Magpie account. The link works only for you: anyone with it can open the document, so do not forward the email. If the sender set an access code, enter it first; the sender gives you the code separately.
The document opens with your fields highlighted. The count at the top shows how many required fields are left, and Next field moves to the next one. Fields with a dashed border are optional.
- Signature and Initials: select the field, then draw with a mouse, finger or stylus, or choose Type and type your name. Adopt and sign applies it. Other signature fields then take the same signature when you select them. Select a signed field to adopt a different one or remove it from that field.
- Name, Email and Text: type into the field. Name and Email start with the details the sender entered.
- Checkbox: select it to check it.
- Date signed: filled in with the date you finish, in your browser's time zone.
Select Finish signing when the required fields are complete. By selecting it, you confirm that you intend to sign the document electronically. Your email address, the time, your IP address and your browser are recorded with your signature. Your drawn or typed signature is used only in this document.
To refuse, select Decline and optionally give a reason. The sender is told, and the request stops for everyone.
When everyone has signed, you are emailed a link to download the signed PDF and a certificate of completion. The link also opens a page with Download signed PDF and Download certificate.
When the link shows something else
- This document is not ready for you yet: the sender asked people to sign in order, and someone before you has not signed. You will be emailed when it is your turn.
- You signed this document: you have finished; the others have not all signed yet.
- This request has expired: ask the sender to extend it or send a new request. The top of the document shows the date to sign by, when there is one.
- This request was declined: you or another signer declined, so it stopped.
- This link does not open a document: the link no longer works because the sender voided or deleted the request, or changed the signer. Ask the sender if you still need to sign.
