Create a job and publish its page
Add a job, write its description, and publish its page on your public job board.
Open Hiring and select New job, on the overview or on Jobs. Enter a job title. Magpie creates the job as a draft and opens its page. Everything else on that page saves as you edit it.
Hiring opens on an overview: the job board's address, counts of published jobs, active candidates and hires (select one to open that list), the scorecards you still owe, and the newest applications.
Jobs opens on the Current tab, which lists every job except archived ones. The other tabs list Published, Draft, Paused, Closed, Filled and Archived jobs, and each tab shows its count. Each row shows the job's status, location, active candidates and how many openings are filled.
Job details
The job page holds the description, requirements, department, location, workplace (on-site, hybrid or remote), employment type, salary range, number of openings, hiring manager, closing date and internal notes. The description and requirements accept Markdown. Applicants see the description, requirements, location, workplace, employment type, salary and closing date. Salary says how the job page will show the salary once a lowest or highest salary is set. Workplace starts as Not set; a job page shows it only once it is chosen. The closing date is picked from a calendar. Internal notes are only visible to the team.
A draft's Publish job button beside its title makes it public and starts taking applications. Until the job has a description, the button is off and the line under the title says what to add. A paused, closed or filled job has Reopen job there instead, and an archived job has Restore to draft. More holds the other status changes the job can take: Pause, Close job, Mark filled and Archive. A published job's description cannot be removed; pause the job first.
The Candidates band opens the job's Pipeline board and its Candidate list. See Review candidates and record outcomes.
The hiring manager receives an email when someone applies. A new job's hiring manager is the person who created it. Choose No one to send no email.
Status
| Status | Job page | Listed on the job board |
|---|---|---|
| Draft | Not available. Use Preview under Addresses to see it. | No |
| Published | Accepts applications | Yes |
| Paused | Shows that it is not accepting applications | No |
| Closed or Filled | Shows that it is no longer accepting applications | No |
| Archived | Not available | No |
A job needs a description before it can be published. A published job takes applications until 11:59 PM on its closing date in the job board's time zone, set in Hiring → Settings (see Hiring settings). After that, its page says it is no longer accepting applications. A job whose closing date has passed cannot be published or reopened until you change or clear the date.
Marking a candidate hired does not change the job's status. When every opening is filled, Magpie says so, and you can change the status to Filled. Archiving a job keeps its candidates in Hiring.
Addresses
Each team, and Personal, has one job board at /jobs/<board address>. Magpie
creates it with the first job, from the team's name (your name in Personal).
Each job page is at /jobs/<board address>/<job>, created from the job title.
Neither address changes later, including when the title changes. The job board
lists every published job that is taking applications.
A job's page shows both addresses under Addresses, each with Copy and View, which opens the page in a new tab; select an address to copy it. To list your published jobs on your company's website, link to the job board address.
On the job page, applicants see the job's facts, the description and requirements, and the application form; Apply at the top goes straight to the form. Team members who can edit Hiring also see Edit in Magpie there and on the job board.
Share job, in the page bar of a published job, starts a Social Media post with the job's title and address. See Write, schedule and publish social posts.
Job pages carry a title and description for sharing. A job page that accepts applications also carries job information that search engines read for job search, such as Google for Jobs: the title, description, requirements, employment type, location, remote work, salary and closing date, where the job has them. A paused, closed or filled job's page does not.
