Your coach shares your coaching with you in your own Client Portal. Sign in with the button in your invitation, or at your portal's address with a link and code sent to your email address. Then open Coaching.

Your Magpie account

When your coaching starts, a Magpie account is made for the email address your coach used, unless you already have one there; your invitation says which. Sign in to Magpie with that address, using a sign-in link emailed to you, and your portal is listed on your Dashboard under Portal you were invited to. If the account was made before and its address was never confirmed, the portal is listed once you sign in with that link, which confirms the address. Your account does not join your coach's team, and your coach sees only what you do in your portal.

Joining a program

On a coach's program page, Apply sends your answers to the coach, who will email you. Join asks for your name and email address. If the program has an agreement, you sign it first; then you pay the first invoice. Your coaching starts when it is paid, and you are emailed a link to your portal. If you leave before paying, the invoice and the agreement are in your email; your place is kept for 7 days.

Coming later

If your coach shows it, Coming later on your Coaching page lists the exercises and resources your program brings next, with when each arrives.

Your agreement and invoices

If your coach sends a coaching agreement, it is in your portal under Signatures. When your coaching starts once it is signed, your Coaching page shows only the agreement until you sign it, and your coaching starts on that day.

Invoices for your coaching are emailed to you and are in your portal under Invoices. When you pay by card and more payments are to come, you can choose to save your card, and the next invoices are charged to it as they fall due. Ask your coach if you want them to stop.

To do now

The top of the page lists what is due: prep for your next session, a session to rate, a check-in that is open, and your actions due this week. Your portal's Overview lists them too, with the habits you have not logged today.

Sessions

Choose Book a session to see your coach's free times, a week at a time, in your time zone. Choose a time to book it; you will be emailed a calendar invitation. Open a session to Join it when it is time; a Video Chat session needs no account.

72 hours before a session, its Prep opens: what you want from the session, how you will know it was useful, and where you are on your goals. What you type is kept as you type it, and your coach reads it before the session. After the session, your coach's recap and the actions you agreed are on the session's page, and you are asked to rate the session for 7 days.

To move or cancel a session, use More beside its date. Close to the start it can no longer be moved, and cancelling then counts as one of your sessions; the page says so before you confirm. If there are no times to book, the Sessions band says why: every session is used or booked, you have booked as many ahead as you can, or your coaching is paused.

Habits

Choose Done today or Skip beside a habit. To log yesterday or the day before, tap that day's square in the habit's grid; tap a logged square to take it back. Each habit shows how often you did it against its own target, such as "5 of the last 7 days". Missing a day does not undo a habit.

Actions

Choose Finish on one of your actions and pick Done, Partly done or Not done, with what you learned if you like; your coach reads it before your next session. Reopen takes it back. Add when and where asks for a plan, such as "When I sit down after lunch, I will write 200 words", which makes an action more likely to happen. You can also add actions of your own. Your coach's actions are shown so you know what they will do.

Check-ins

Open a check-in while it is open and answer its questions. What you type is kept as you type it, so you can come back to it. When you are done, choose Send to and your coach's name. A check-in stays open until the next one opens; once sent, it shows your answers and when the next one opens. Your coach does not read a check-in as you write it. In an emergency, contact your local emergency services.

Exercises

Your coach may give you an exercise: a wheel, where you rate areas of your life from 0 to 10, or a set of questions. It waits under To do now until you send it. What you enter is kept as you go, so you can come back to it. When you are done, choose Send to and your coach's name. Your answers stay under Exercises on your Coaching page. Your coach does not read an exercise as you fill it in. In an emergency, contact your local emergency services.

Goals

Open a goal to see your progress, record where you are now, and mark a milestone reached. A goal marked "To agree in your next session" is one your coach suggested; you agree it together.

Messages

Open Messages with your coach at the bottom of your Coaching page. Your coach and the people named under "Who can read your coaching" read it. If a message from your coach is unread for 15 minutes, you are emailed that there is one; the email does not include it. You can delete your own messages. Your coach does not read a message as you write it. In an emergency, contact your local emergency services.

To send files, use Add files or drop them on the page. They wait under your message until you press Send: up to 10 files of up to 500 MB each, of any kind except programs and Office files that can hold macros. Choose a file in a message to download it.

Library

Library at the bottom of your Coaching page lists what your coach gave you to read, watch or work through: files to download, links, recordings, Documents and text. Your coach sees when you open one. Choose Mark done on it once you have finished.

Journal

Open Journal at the bottom of your Coaching page. New entry starts an entry with three prompts as headings: "What happened?", "What did I learn from it?" and "What will I do next?". New blank entry starts one without them. What you write is saved as you type, up to 100,000 characters an entry.

Only you can read an entry until you turn on Share with your coach beside its date. Your coach then reads it as it is and as you change it; turn the switch off and they no longer see it. A new entry starts with the choice you made for your last one. Delete entry in More deletes it for good.

Takeaways

A takeaway is one line you want to keep, of up to 500 characters. Add one under a session's recap or under a journal entry, and your coach can add them in a session; theirs reach you with the recap. Star the ones that matter most: starred takeaways come first on your Coaching page and in All takeaways.

Reminders

One email a day lists what is due: actions, open check-ins and habits. Use Done or Done today in the email to mark an action done or log a habit without signing in: the link opens a page with one button to confirm. For a check-in, choose a number from 0 to 10 in the email; the rest of the check-in opens in your portal. The links work for up to 7 days. On a day with nothing due, no email comes, and nothing comes between 21:00 and 07:00 your time.

In Coaching settings, choose when the daily email comes and, for actions, habits, check-ins, sessions and messages, whether you are reminded. Something reminded 3 times that you have not acted on stops being reminded; your coach can start its reminders again.

Your time zone

Check-ins open, actions fall due and reminders come in your time zone. Change it in Coaching settings at the bottom of your Coaching page.

Progress reviews

When your coach starts a progress review, you are emailed, and it is listed under Progress reviews on your Coaching page. It shows your figures for the period. Write your reflection there; it is saved as you type, and only you can read it until you choose Mark done. You read your coach's summary once you have both finished, or when your coach shares the review. Print prints it.

Your cohort

If your coach added you to a cohort, it is listed on your Coaching page. Open it for its conversation, the group sessions you are invited to and who else is in it. The others see your first name and last initial; change it in Your name in the cohort. They never see your goals, journal or messages with your coach. You are emailed when someone writes in the conversation unless you turn off Emails about the conversation. Join a Video Chat group session from the link in your invitation email.

Your sponsor

When an organization sponsors your coaching, your Coaching page links to What {sponsor} sees. It says what the sponsor sees: your name, your coach, the dates and, if your coach shows them, the sessions held. It sees a goal or a review only if you share it. Your coach may ask; you choose Approve or Decline, and Withdraw stops a share at once. Not for {sponsor} keeps a goal from ever being shared or asked for. Your notes, journal, check-ins, exercises and messages are never shown to the sponsor. Once a month the sponsor is emailed how many sessions were held and how many goals and reviews you shared, never what they say.

Your record

Your record in Coaching settings makes a ZIP file of your whole coaching: a page that opens in any browser, the same as JSON, your goal values, habit logs and check-in answers as spreadsheets, and your files. It holds your journal, shared or not, and not your coach's private notes. You are emailed a link when it is ready, and it can be downloaded for 7 days. You can do this after your coaching has ended too.

In the Magpie app

If your portal is connected to a Magpie account, Your coaching is at the top of the Dashboard in the Magpie app. There you can see what to do now, log habits, finish actions, answer check-ins, write in your journal, message your coach, book, move or cancel sessions, write your prep, read recaps, rate sessions and open your library. The app does not join a Video Chat session; a Zoom or Google Meet link opens from it.

In Coaching settings in the app, choose which reminders come to the app instead of by email: your daily list, a check-in opening, a session the day before, or a message from your coach.

Who can read your coaching

The bottom of your Coaching page names the coaches who can read it. After your coaching ends, you can still read it in your portal.
