Import assets

On the asset list, choose More, then Import assets from CSV. Choose a CSV file with a header row. Magpie reads the header row and shows a list for each asset detail; choose the column that holds it, or leave it as Do not import. A column whose heading matches the detail, such as serial_number or Serial number, is chosen already. Name is the only detail every row needs. Download a file with the expected headers gives an empty CSV with the column headings.

The details are name, asset tag, serial number, category, manufacturer, model, status, condition, location, assigned to, due back, purchase date, purchase price, currency, warranty expires and notes. Choose Import assets; the assets are added to Personal or the selected team.

  • A row with no asset tag gets the next AST tag.
  • A category that does not exist yet is added.
  • Assigned to must match the name of exactly one team member or Contact. The asset is assigned to them, or checked out to them when the status is checked_out, with the Due back date.
  • Status can be available, maintenance, lost, retired or checked_out; anything else is imported as available. A condition left empty is imported as good.
  • Purchase and warranty columns are imported only for team admins, and skipped for other members. A purchase without a currency uses the team's currency.

A row that cannot be imported, such as one reusing an asset tag that is already in use, is skipped. The other rows are imported, and the skipped rows are listed with the reason after the import.

Members with view access cannot import assets.

Export assets

On the asset list, choose More, then Export these assets as CSV. The file has the assets the list shows with its current search, filters and tab, one row each, with its tag, name, category, manufacturer, model, serial number, status, condition, location, who it is assigned and checked out to, its due date, whether it is bookable, and notes. Purchase and warranty columns are filled in only for team admins.

Mobile app

The list's menu contains Import assets from CSV and Export these assets as CSV. Import lets you select a file up to 5 MB and match its columns the same way. Download CSV template shares a file with the supported headings; only admins receive purchase and warranty headings. Details left unmatched use their defaults. Export shares the currently filtered assets as a CSV file.
